Non-shite! Circlip pliers!

I've been searching for a pair of these for a couple of months. Not a single 'hardware store' stocks them, not ever Toolstation or Screwfix, or even the small scale ones, and not even the second hand tool shop I go to.

 

What I'm after basically is a pair of these:

 

 

But longer. They're like some kind of tool variant of the Holy Grail. I cannot get them anywhere, and I know they exist as the circlip I'm trying to get out is at the bottom of a 2 inch cavity.

 

I boshed these up, but they're really not fit for the job at all (and have since broken):

 

 

Searching for 'Long Nose Circlip Pliers' on google brings up my earlier request from April as first result!

Cromwell have a lot of circlip pliers but I can't see anything there that precisely fits your needs

Sorry to say this, but everytime I've asked, I get links for normal pliers, when I need to take out circlips with CIRCLIP pliers.

Doubt I have any but will certainly have a shufty for you. How long do they need to be exactly chief?

 

Ps: have you tried T&G Autoparts in Ellesmere Port (next to the greyhound track) or their place on Sealand Rd in Chester? They sell tools as well as parts.

Sorry to say this, but everytime I've asked, I get links for normal pliers, when I need to take out circlips with CIRCLIP pliers.

If the length is adequate you can grind down the ends of the needle-nosers to accommodate the circlip eyelets.

Hmmmm. We accidentally bought 150 pairs of them at work, we wanted normal needlenose pliers but I made the shopping list quite late at night, after a few too many beverages.

 

Sent 'em back, like, and got 'em swapped. But they are out there! We source all our stuff at work from CPC (part of Farnell). Off the top of my head thy were Knipex brand, the rest of the pliers we ordered were.

I can't use standard pliers as the cavity is just over an inch wide. You can't even get them in while compressing a spring in there as well, never mind opening them. Plus they need to be sprung.

 

Think I'll go for those up there. ^

 

This is the pain I'm going through:

 

 

Imagine that, with nil visibility inside, and with a big socket on the top trying to compress the valve-type spring with a cage on top, while trying to keep everything straight to prevent doing this to the spring cage:

 

 

Who designed these brakes? The Prince of Darkness himself.

Try Amazon if you know the dimensions of the pliers you need. Failing that I can order some off the Tool van next time he's round if you want, but would need details of internal/external straight/angled and so on.

I have a cracking set of circlip pliers I use to remove my gentlemans body piercing. Obviously you wouldn't want to borrow those but you can get a similar set from most good motorcycle shops as they are used to remove the baffles from semi road legal bike exhausts.

Just stick circlip pliers in the search. I think the ones I got were NWS and came as a set. Warning: they ain't cheap.

 

Cromwell Tools or Axminster might do their own brand which will be decent quality.

Bought the motorbike ones - they haven't come yet though. From what I've seen, it's the same procedure, so think that should do it. This is the trickiest thing I've ever done in my life, it's taken 3 months to do two calipers.

They did the job though, it took me about 10 minutes to get everything back together again.
