1993 Jaguar XJ6 adventures

BTW - you have to dismantle a lot of the centre console to get at the radio. This video shows the process to remove the ash tray, then wood trim and gear selector surround, and then more wood trim to finally get at the radio.

It's a bit strange as there's no commentary but there is sound - of the leather seats squeaking as the bloke moves around accompanied by his heavy breathing and passing traffic in the background. If it's ASMR material it's of the more left field variety.

“Thankfully” when I was messing around with relays etc I had left the ski slope wing nuts undone so taking it all apart again to replace the radio shouldn’t be much of a headache. It’s quite scary taking it apart and you always think the wood is going to split! Jaguar never likes to make things easy

Got round to sorting out the bumper today. Don’t think it looks too bad. Still a little wonky. I would say it’s defo had a little wallop at some point in it’s life.

So I tackled today by sorting out some of the interior trim that was either off or not on properly. IMG_6199.jpeg.2cf379d8af669efaff495ca61ff3cafd.jpeg

The passenger side panel was the priority, the previous owner had removed it and left it in the boot. IMG_6200.jpeg.56694395fe8f218d84f7aa61e079bab3.jpeg

Same with the fuse box covers, I only had a ratchet screwdriver so whilst I was out I bought this set from Tk Maxx for £12! The RRP was £36. IMG_6214.jpeg.21b521999ec233d679c53aaabec801e6.jpeg

I also noticed the tyres on the XJ were a bit old! 2009 was a long time ago now so these need replacing when I get a chance.IMG_6205.jpeg.c520c6ae3f96057cffc127b44a79734a.jpeg

Here’s how the interior looks now, the passenger side panel was quite warped for some reason! I’ll see if I can straighten it out when I get a chance but it looks a lot better than it did so I’m happy for now. IMG_6221.jpeg.3df4e55ecc36544d330f36825714dc0a.jpeg

Not a huge update. Just been really busy recently.

Those passenger side panels always warp. It's really making me miss my xj40!

Gave her a wash yesterday after it not being washed for roughly a year. Shines up well. still needs some cosmetic work but it’s getting there. I’m looking at changing all the black trim back to chrome again.

All the chrome has been painted with shoddy black paint so I wonder if I could somehow take the paint off without damaging the chrome. It’s already come off in places

Looks smart. I like the black trim, but if it's shabby then probably better put back to chrome.

That panel - would a bath in hot water make it flexible enough for you to bolt it back in place and prop into the correct shape with a few chocks of wood?

That’s a good shout actually, I’ll see what I can do with it on the weekend.

So with the arrival of our newborn in a few days time I think it’s best to SORN the beast. I’ll be checking on it every few weeks. It’s just going to be for a few months whilst the Mrs and I concentrate on our daughter. I’ve still got a lot planned for it and don’t see myself selling it anytime soon.

Good luck to all three of you with the forthcoming birth-out. Cars can take a back seat for the newborn settling in period (about 18 years)

I hope I won’t turn into the type of person that will let it sit there for 18 years and when asked if it’s for sale I’ll say “Nah m8 I’m gonna do it up one day”
