Not much progress but the air filter and housing have been removed, at least I can eyeball the oil cooler now.  Need to order an air filter, luckily I have a few fuel filters to hand, the one on there now looks way past its sell by date. Will get some new plugs too as it’s not known to me when they were done last.

It’s a start 😊

Nothing mechanical to report but stuff done on the interior.

The original vinyl has faded and discoloured badly. See photo. It’s horrible.

Found some spray on vinyl paint on eBay.
Mid beige. Worth a try.  Door card cleaned and given two coats of the paint.

Very impressed with how it went on.

I’m liking it tbh. Contrasts well with the body colour and brown of the other bits of trim.  A vast improvement methinks.

More cans ordered which will enable me to go on a trim recolouring frenzy which will include some of the dash trim.

Done a second door card today, so one can covers two panels. Not bad tbh.
This stuff is bloody brilliant.

Things have stalled at the moment, mostly due to utter loss of mojo/energy since being forced into full retirement. This is due to NHS change of policy on the use of bank workers such as myself.
All four door cards have been colour changed and it really lifts the interior.

Any change in progress will be reported, but it may be a while 😔

Once I have shrugged off the mild sedation left over from yesterday’s Amitriptyline I fully intend* to start the strip down in order to access the oil cooler so that it can be cleaned out. That took much longer to type than anticipated due to the overwhelming desire to close my eyes and drift off. Fuck you Amitriptyline.

doesnt do shit for me....... allegedly given to me to help sleep!!!

Keymaster tracked down what might be the only new Visa oil cooler left in the universe.
It was located in Italy via e*ay. No, the seller wouldn’t post it to the UK (thanks Brexit). They would post to someone in France, so that was arranged. It should be travelling via post to the UK soon.

The new ‘made out of unicorns’ oil cooler survived its trip from Italy to the UK via France…….. Whoohoo. I would very much like to physically compare it to the 2CV one, just because.

Still no sign of the door weather strip clips anywhere whatsoever.  I think that they are clearly rarer than unicorn oil coolers.

It’s deeply frustrating.

Have you tried the Chevronic Centre for trim bits mate?

Posted

Yeah, they had something that looks do’able but like quite a few bits that they list it’s out of stock. Seems like the clips are in demand but as rare as hens teeth.

Have done a thing….

It’s a bit bodge orientated but hey, better than a clump of wires.   Just have to fashion a cover place for that lower section.

I might try the baking soda/loctite glue trick to fill some of those gaps

Assume you mean the cracks rather than the 1" square "holes"?

If so I was rereading that some cajole dry baking soda crystals in to the crack/target first, then apply some superglue, & repeat as necessary.

The baking soda really does make it bulk up to act as a filler BUT also makes it go off super quick!!

To be fair I had to look twice before I clocked what you’d done.

Do you have any photos of what those clips might look like?

If it's something I could 3D model and then 3D print I'll happily run some off for you, FOC!

Chodweaver attended PBK Towers today and the oil cooler change plan was actioned. Much undoing of stuff occurred, most of it was easy enough to undo. Removing the shield was complex as we had no puller for the fan but we got there eventually. Removing the O/S engine mount helped.
It was then that I stumbled upon a YouTube video from 13 years ago that showed the removal process without a puller. It takes about 3 minutes.  This was confirmed. Sigh.

One oil cooler fastener undid fine, one might have been tackled earlier and sadly rounded off.  The large bolt was taken out and Chodweaver took it away to work one.

The time will give me the chance to do a bit of tidying up of the tinwear and various bits and pieces.  Some fasteners will be replaced as they were looking a bit tired.

I’ll need a new oil filter (old one was not on overly tight) and copper washers. Oh, also some decent oil.

Oil filter, 20/50 oil and copper washers for the sump plug on their way.

Air filter and plugs to be ordered when it’s all back together.
