Much like last time you had a fast Audi.
Still prefer your Volvo 240.
I'm a bit of an Audi fanboi I must confess. Still sad for the day the 240 had to go.

Possible help needed from AutoShiters in the mechanic trade. I think I need some bits from TPS, mainly like the washers for the gearbox, diff, engine, etc. Also did some research and apparently the 6 bar fuel filters were superseded by 6.6bar ones but whenever you search for R8 filters it always just brings up the 6 bar ones. Don't want to end up with the wrong one. Apparently there is a reusable gearbox filter also but I can't find any decent diagrams.

I'm finding the usual YouTube video guides aren't as plentiful as they would be if it was a mk4 golf for example.

An R8 on Autoshite that isn't a Rover.

What a time to be alive.

Best of luck with it! With the engine where it is, I assume its the rear bumper that will have to come off every week?

I will be honest and admit that when I saw the thread title, what I pictured in my head was a Renner 8 😎

Service day tomorrow.
I have access to a ramp so can have a good poke around underneath.
Going to be a semi major service with engine oil, gearbox oil, diff oil, brake fluid change and air filter cleaned.
Be a good opportunity to take off all the underbody panels and see whats what.
The cars been great so far, hopefully that continues tomorrow.

Mid service update. One of the Sump plugs is spinning and currently drilling out to put in a time-sert. Never simple.

On a happier note the car looks largely clean. No oil leaks and suspension all feels tight etc.
Have discovered a new tyre is in order however.20250314_111741.jpg20250314_104816.jpg20250314_104810.jpg20250314_104801.jpg20250314_104415.jpg20250314_104407.jpg20250314_103634.jpg20250314_103629.jpg

What a day.
Service done.
My friend lives in settle in yorkshire, i live in stockport so 60 miles away. It is however a lovely drive through the hills when you get off the M60. In those roads you come to understand how special a car it is. I have also come to understand that 440hp is ample.

Some of the takeaways from the day.
The gearbox is now much more compliant going in to second gear. Previously it took a little bit of nursing in to gear and if you went too quick you would feel a little scratchyness/notchyness. It was very minor but definitely there sometimes, but not always. On the way back second came smoothly and readily. Thats a big win. The gearbox oil wasnt that bad but was darker.
Front diff oil looked brand new but replaced anyway of course.
Engine oil looked fine but only had a couple of thousand miles on it.
Brake fluid was rubbish. Like really bad.
Thankfully we flushed it all out.

The car otherwise was in nice health and very dry all over the engine. Its a big relief to see that the car i bought blind wasnt hiding anything. Big smiles on the drive there and back. Ive gelled with it and have started to build a confidence and understanding with it and most importantly (like i do with most of my cars after a month of ownership) i have not gotten bored of it. The joy it gives me is almost worrying. Special thing.

Next update.
Car has been driving great since the service but something which i knew needed doing really needed to be done. Rear brake pads.
They had started squeaking quite a bit and looking at the pad i was a little worried about how worn they were and potentially scoring the discs if they got too low so i set about doing it this afternoon. Annoyingly i had to get to the brake fluid reservoir again to suck out the excess which means this front end strip down20250415_173051.jpg.f7129590df7b0b947e7760902a334d3f.jpg

ill be honest the new pads werent actually fitting in the caliper. I ended up having to grind down the sides of the pads as they were too wide to fit. I suspect the calipers have been rebuilt and powder coated and therefore means the gaps have been made a smidge smaller. No harm. The pads went in fine once i took a smidge material off.Β
I also managed to find the oem pads for far less than what audi would want. I think they want circa Β£220 for rear pads. The same part number from autodoc and they were Β£50 including shipping.Screenshot_20250409_142238_Chrome.jpg.daba49a47520253baa50c402368d7e63.jpgScreenshot_20250409_142246.jpg.600a377aca01c46a13190bfa61694522.jpg
See. Even "supercars" can be run on a budget.

I rate Autodoc.... App is decent and they have a load of options for most parts. Takes a few days longer for delivery but that's not an issue for me...

I agree. They seems to have a really good selection of parts for all cars and theyre quite commonly the cheapest supplier. I use partsinmotion a lot for quicker service but if its something like this where its a bit more expensive or i want to make sure i get OEM parts i tend to go with autodoc

What are they complaining about, no BS mark? Considering the state of the misspaced and misrepresented numberplates you see about, seems harsh

Camera. I remember seeing it as i drove past.
It was a smart car with "CCTV in operation" plastered all over it.

I suppose it's a fair cop if it's tinted but you also have to question the logic in that it's illegal because cameras might not be able to read it, but they caught you with a camera.Β

I mean I knew it wasnt legal and started the process to get a new one and forgot about it so I'm culpable unfortunately. Take my medicine and move on i suppose.

Fair enough, I would have thought a warning would have more approriate, particularly given the method of detecting the 'offense'.

Is it worth writing to them with copy of your order for new plates? ... shows you have undestood and acted quickly ..

Respect to Dirty Daily for sucking it up and not whinging about the number plate NIP. Once they have confirmation of owner/driver they may just issue a warning rather than prosecution, just have to wait and see.

I don't usually frequent PissedOnHeads, but happened to see this related thread

A slapped wrist would be greatly appreciated but i suspect itll be the standard Β£100 fine. My records clean however so maybe some leniency could be applied since i bought it like that and its a fairly minor infraction.

When you respond there's no harm in adding an acknowledgement and copy of your order for the new compliant number plates. Might not make any difference but worth a shot....

See back in the day it would have been an actual copper issuing a producer who you could have discussed your having a new plate on order with - and hence it could be sorted out painlessly.

Not impressed. They don’t even know the difference between an Impreza saloon and a wagon.
