Where do you see all this chod????? Marvellous spotting I have to say. Nice knockhill stuff. Was that at this weekend's BTCC. I normally go, but did not fancy taking my chances and getting stuck in that mad muddy hill they park you on at big events esp after all this rain! Slidetastic :D:D:D:D

I get about :)

Took the Senator up yesterday in torrential rain but it was dead so we got parked on the gravel; today was mental, went up in my mate's Clio turbo (1.2 on a 59-plate. How inspiring*) which we managed not to get stuck. Win/win!

The Montego is ace with it's browntastic interior. Is he going to join us?

His missus apparantly has an account but lost the password! He's just told me he's bought a 1.3 base Montego (with a 4-speed 'box) so if he doesn't sign up I may have to use violence. Either way I'll get pics and post 'em up here... still to get pics of his father-in-law's Maestro VP too. Harrumph.

*EDIT* just nicked this from Ian's facebook...

Ooooffff! That is the spit of the B-reg one a local farmer had when I worked for him back in the early 90s, including the colour!

Posted

I suspect his neighbours will think he is a MENTAL.

I'll try to tee up some pics of the red base and the gold Mayfair together at some point in the very near future...

Posted

Jeez mister, you don't half get around! The C-plate 5 series I papped the other week myself, and it's not somewhere obvious either. Mind you, when I papped it, I was standing on the platform of a Hiab truck, which caused the lady of the house to check it was still there, when I left...

Also spotted the red Capri racer with 'Benn Self Drive' on it, going up the M74 on Friday night, on its' trailer.

And thanks for catching my car's better side. Just wish I'd pulled the load cover over to disguise the bootful of crap!

That 1.3 Montego is seriously nice. Montego man needs to haul his ass on here! Where is he finding these beauties. Top purchasing.

He needs to complete the collection with a dizzler countryman.

Feel the Montego love... turns out it's not my mate Ian's, but his missus' - I'll hopefully get either or both of them signed up shortly. The dealer plates are R. S. Lightfoot, Runcorn.

Hello peoples................

I have finally worked out my password (reset it) and found the appropriate thread.

For everyones information, I guess I will have to set the record straight!

I - The wifey was the one that started the search off for something a little more rare than your average ford

I - The wIfey of said Montego man am actually the one who found and purchased both beauties!

The gold Mayfair is registered in his name and the newly acquired red 1.3L is in my name.

Anyone wishing to get such amazing automotive joy will require, it appears, to go to Doncaster as this is where they both came from.

The first journey was rather epic as we won the gold one on ebay at 1.45 and were heading down in the skoda at 2.45pm to pick her up. Arrived at the guys door at around 7pm, checked her over and then set off back up the country - Taking it easy of-course, arriving home a 2.30am. Two weeks later, on the Maestro Montego owners forum there was a wee man determined to break his Monty as he was fed up tinkering with it. Many people commented saying she was far too good to break and a few even sounded like they were going to buy her but by the Saturday there was still no movement. She is taxed to end November and MOT'd to May 2013 so checked insurance, PM'd the guy and headed on a much more civilised journey back down to Doncaster late afternoon. We stopped off at the travel lodge in Pontefract and picked her up at 10am on Sunday heading steadily back up the country once again...........

We were out playing in both tonight but got quite dark before we stopped to take photos so will post some joint photos once I have some better ones.

According to 'how many left' the gold mayfair is one of 2 left (taxed) and the red base is one of 3 left (taxed) so a pretty rare find by any standard.

Thank you for your kind comments so far I am very please with out latest additions to the family! :D

Ahhh, welcome! Introduction threads are where it's at on here, pictures or it didn't happen and whatnot... you're amongst friends here

That is frickin' amazing. 1.3 Montegos were very rare even back in the day. There was a white one rotting down the side of a house a few doors down circa 1998-99, but this is the first one I've seen since.

Posted

Welcome along! we have sort of met. I'm the guy with the French Racing Beige BX that Andy & Ian were salivating over at Lathalmond.

Bee good to see some Montego action on here!

Posted

That is well cool. And well done to someone you know not buying a Volvo

Welcome, nutty!

Checklist...

Daft nick: check

Eastern-bloc daily-driver: check

Oh you are soooooooo going to fit right in! :D I'll re-phrase my opening:

Welcome home, nutty!

Thank you for all the Montego love.

Been out tinkering with hubbys gold Mayfair. He is most definitely feeling a bit left out as a lot of the love is being directed to my base (Bunty)

Im not complaining though just glad I managed to save her.

Glad to have joined the gang :D

For anyone interested both Montys and my parents Maestro VP will be attending the Bo'ness show 8th-9th Sept and the wings and wheels show East Fortune 23rd Sept!

I saw that thread in the Maestro ooc forums but couldnt find the pics. I owned a 1.3 Montego. F303fga to be prescice. I had a accident in it which basically took the front bumper off the car wrecked the fan and bonnet. Had knowen then what i know now i would have fixed it. Howeve said car was written off. Annoyinly said car was bought and put back on the road.! Very basic is the 1,3 Monti. Mines wasnt even an L just a 1,3 from memory. Manaully adjusted mirrors, which you did by pressing the mirror glass!. I owned the opposite end of Montego ownership by having a 2.0l efi with the lcd dash. However in those days Montegos were still around in large numbers and could be picked up v very cheaply. I had a few including a B reg 1600 estate same wheel trims as the 1,3 pictured!.

Posted

Was gonna add to my last poasting that i miss my Montegos, currently have a 1,3 A reg Maestro awaiting attention. Not allowed any more cars! So i am told!

Posted

The A reg Ital spotted a while ago is still there and in the same condition!. I know the owner of said car. He also owns a beige 1700 Ital!. When the car was parked there all it needed was really fuel and brake pipes, as it had the welding done to it, quite a lot actually as i also know who did the work! Sadly it was left with the windows open so the floor is now holey in the usual Ital place. I keep asking if he sell the car for spares but nope he wont. He did tell me if i need bits all i had to do was ask. WHich i did. Guess what? Ehh no might need that bit or this bit! The car is visable from the road but is is disapearing into the hedge. I know the family who own theblue Avenger pictured. They also own a jag. They are menbers of the Autscots car club and west coast Jaguar. Looking forward to seeing the 1.3 Montego at East fortune. I havent seen a 1,3 since mines bit the dust.

I know I'm picky but I do find the modern number plate on that Transit quite offensive!

Nice update, I like the Montego!

I saw that racing car transporter on the M876 the other week. On seeing it the Mrs suggested to me that I too should get a 'proper' classic rather than pouring money into miserable old chod. :|

Also if that Dormobile Transit is a 70 or 71 it would have originally been fitted with a Perkins as the York was introduced in 72. Apparently the Perkins-engined Transits were very miserable machines indeed so frying pan, fire etc with the York perhaps!

Were you at Bo'ness on the Sunday? I was there on the Saturday and the only item of chod present was that brown Maxi (plenty of stunning non-shite machinery though)

Posted

Aye; I was working the Saturday so missed it. As usual for me though, the car park was better than the show... oh well!

Posted

Never managed to get to Boness or East Fortune. Both looked good days though. The Ecurie Ecosee transporter is something else. First time I seen it was at a classic event that was held at the indoor part of Ingleston. A vehicle that just reeks history. Who owns it? Is it part of a museum collection?

That kitted Sterling is a bloody WINNER!

An identical one appeared in an episode of Taggart when probably new. Driven by gangsters!
