See Room 101. My Dad has one, it's been pretty reliable. This is almost as miraculous as the whole fish/loaf/thousands of people thing.

Had two, possibly three, all wank.

Electrics shit, build quality non-existant and pretty dire inside.

Urgh.

WHY??

i want it for transporting my dogs..and other bulky shit stuff, rather than using my daily runner

Have a test drive.

My other half's brother had one and it was dire on motorways - felt like it would fall over.

My mate has a R plate 1.6 model, he paid £800 fir it a year ago and seems happy with it so far, his dad used it the other day to drive to Scotland in with his fishing gear and he said it was as good on fuel as is 55 plate Astray Diesel.

Your poor dogs! Don't inflict them with one of these cars. They are CRAP!

Diesel Mondeo, 406 or Passat estate and leave the back seats folded down all the time!

I love my Scenic. £300 for a 1999 Mk2 1.9 dizzler with 190 thou on the clock, the rear seats come out individually so I can easily fit in 3 people, 3 bikes and all our equipment when going riding which is the reason i bought it. Fits the bill perfectly. The added headroom is brilliant for bikes. I suppose it depends how big your dogs are if its ideal for you.

It smells of animals (it used to live on a farm), is not the most thrilling drive, but thats not what i have got it for. Can goon around in my other cars.

Apparently the central locking is pants on these and is prone to faliure, but mine works fine. One of the windows is a bit tempramental too but hell, I dont really care.

A Citroen Berlingo is probably a better bet. Still French electrics mind... (last one I got a lift in had the heater on full blast. Constantly.)

Actually, this is your new car! Luxurious space for dogs.

^^^ WHS - Blingo / Partner or similar (Fiat Duobloloato) - look shit, but much nicer to drive. My heater did the same, new heater resistor pack (£15) and a couple of hours swearing saw it fixed.

Er, FATHA_Wat was a mega Renault loyalist back in the day and had one of the first 2 litre RXE Scenics.

I have to say, it was fugging ace, and it took a hammering as well. He put 36k on it in a year travelling up and down the country with work. It went quite well also.

looking at the replies... it's kinda swinging to a steer clear

was gonna rip all the back seats out and use it like a van, so might try plan b

those toyota estima thingys

oh btw... only got 1 big dog... rest of them are chihuahuas :D

If you're going to go for the Scenic, make it the RV4...maximum shite points.

I had one for a year or so and absolutely loved the thing.

Unless your dogs have a liking for meeting AA men, I really wouldn't bother.

Sorry folks, but I really do have to spring to the defence of the Scenic.

I had three - a W plate, an 03 plate and a 53 plate. I put quite a lot of miles on each car and paid out for one lower ball joint and a set of front and rear pads on the early one.

I've just bought and repaired a Y plate 1.8 after a front bump, which I'll probably now sell - I'd not have bothered with it, except for the fact that I know what they're like.

Recommended them to quite a few friends over the years - all of them have give no trouble, apart from the odd ignition coil pack. One bought a 1.6 16v with 3k on, now has 130k, still on original battery and exhaust - even with a family it's still mint inside and out. Another is an X plate car bought on invalidity - owner won't part with it because it's been so reliable and economical - even after 110k.

Of course - if it were an auto, then it might be a different matter.

Just my opinion like

I'd like a Scenic RX4, its like a Matra Rancho for the Ipod generation.

My mum and dad are on their 2nd Scenic. They now need something with a higher driving position so its easier to get in and out of as they are getting on a bit. :D He had an R reg 1.6e RT which was very difficult to engage 1st gear in.

His current car is a V reg 1.6 16v Sport which has a much better gearbox, is very well kitted out with alloys and aircon and is quick enough. Although driving an MPV doesn't suit my 'I have no children' image, I have driven it a few times and its a very good car.

EDIT: Parents' Scenic is a very comfortable car with big, soft front seats (a Renault personality trait, I believe). The rear seats are less so but I guess that there has to be a trade off in fitting 3 identically sized individual rear seats that can be completely removed from the car to turn into a van. 8)

The other half has a '96 2.0 Scenic. It's been a really reliable motor for us and nothing has ever gone wrong on it. Don't know why everyone makes them out to be such shitboxes because it's screwed together really well, it's comfy, everything still works and it goes well. Gets over 40mpg on the motorway. And it becomes a van with the seats down.
