The most hideously overweight, ugly pieces of shite ever created, and driven exclusively by utter fucktards. Burn them all.

The BMW X5 is a close second.

That is the first Q7 I have seen and hope it is the last too!

I can't speak for newer Mercs but older models are both well catered for and cheap for genuine parts.

In fact stuff for my 190E was surprisingly cheap and when I went for an ignition, ignition key, door handle assembly and door lock and key for a 22 year old Merc commercial not only did they have them on the shelf but the toal cost was only something like £45.00+VAT.

Newer model Mercs seem to suffer from stupid sensor problems ala Vauxhall CDTi models and I keep hearing bad things about build quality.

W123/124 models are exempt from slagging.anything after that is shite

CityRover.

Indian built heap of wank barely breathed on by anyone at Rover before a Viking badge was no-more-nailsed to the bonnet and foisted on the general public at top-of-sector money.

I'd like to nominate any Audi built from 1998 onwards, although will allow the R8 as it is meant to be a good drive.

.....I never experienced any of the 'torque steer' Mr Clarkson portrayed

Hardly surprising as it's a rear wheel drive car.

I'm pretty sure Mk5 Escort was talking about the Astra VXR as Station mentioned, which he quoted before mentioning the whole VXR range. I assume you dont watch Top Gear (no shame in that) as Clarkson really likes the Monaro as opposed to not likeing the supposed torque steer of the Astra.

quote="Albert Ross"]Grey imports. There's a reason they weren't sold in the UK. THEY'RE SHIT.

I have to disagree with this. I agree many are shit, but it can make it amusing for unsuspecting people when they buy a shit car. Also I'd like to try a Civic FD2 Type R which are/were only available via import.

CityRover.

Totally agree.

the SillyRover has, I believe, the only record that shows zero warranty claims.

The Rover Metro was a better car, but was killed by B**

All Saabs built in GM ownership. IT'S A BLOODY VECTRA IN A FROCK!

You'd have to take out the Saab 9-2x as it's a Subaru Impreza Sportwagen in a frock

Supposed??? Um... even the newish turdo diseasel ones torque steer, and they're not quick. With 200ish bhp they're gonna be a pig to steer.

I hate torque steer, unless its in an Alfa 164. For some reason it's forgiven then.

Can't say I've driven one but I'd love a VX/R or Nurbuggering edition Astra.

OK, my bad, as they say in Pittenweem.

To my very great shame, yes, I certainly do watch TG. Though when another FWD hot hatch comes on, well that's toilet time as a rule.:wink:

That I did not know........must admit that the new "Spyker Saabs" look quite cool, although bloody hoooooge.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer-based 9-7X is a particularly poor effort.

Check out the crap attempts to 'SAAB'-up the interior

 Mmmm, nice cupholder. An ignition switch that locks the gear lever in reverse (presumably in park on the autos?) does not in itself make some effort by the same jokers who gave their name to this horrid piece of tat:

into a Saab.

Yeah, while I'm at it, I nominate the Aveo for room 101, I had to do about 2000 miles in one the week that my Dolly was having the gearbox parking pawl disengaged following a minor whack from the rear when it was parked.

Hit by a Saab as it happened, but I digress; that Aveo was the single most foul-handling sack of crap ever to be released for sale in the UK.

It was nasty, the driver's seat didn't come up anything like enough to make it comfortable, even though there's actually about a yard of headroom in there. The thing felt horribly overpowered with its 1.6 litre, Corsa-derived engine, couldn't get the power down at all if I so much as breathed in the direction of the accelerator pedal. The gearbox was total shite, a CVT but indexed at several fixed points to make it feel like a proper gearbox, only a proper gearbox doesn't change randomly up and down, unless it's fitted to a Pug 206, but that's another story entirely.

Build quality was, well, imagine something far less inviting than the Saab'd-up innards of that truck, above.

Hateful little thing it was, it should go into Room 101 before everything else so that it gets a right proper crushing.

having never driven any of the following but coming from Cheshire, any car that becomes a must have fashion accessory....overnight they pop up everywhere, in every driveway, in every car park...

to name a few

MGF

Lotus Elise

Porsche Boxter

SLK

Audi TT (oh had one as a company car for 8 weeks so have driven this pile o turd)

The new BMW small car named after a classic British car (sorry can't bring myself to name that BMW creation)

Fiat 500

unjust!!! some may cry but trust me, driveway after driveway, it becomes a bit tedious, thank god I've moved but I still have to witness it every time I pop back up to see the folks

The grossly overrated Mk4 Golf is my only nomination because it's the only car I have ever driven and instantly disliked only to dislike it more as the day progressed. It was so annoyingly dull and disappointing that I nearly knocked down a pedestrian.

I also used to occasionally drive a former colleague's Hyundai Tucson 4x4 sort of thing. This was monsterously shit in it's ratio of blind spots to stupid controls such as the lights stalk and wipers stalk being reversed and the wiper one having totally indeterminate positions so that the intermittent wipe was always left on and to put it off just made them go faster... pile of bloo poo

Don't you mean "the proper way round for RHD vehicles?"

Posted

+1 for the correct way round indicator stalk :P

Right is right. None of this common market nonsense.

BMW Mini. Any car virtually the size of a landcrab that hasn't even got the interior space to keep a spare wheel gets my vote.

I wouldnt know for sure whether it torque steered or not, I put 'supposed' because I dont like to form an opinion without experiencing it first hand.

..Although I dont mind a bit of twisting at the wheel anyway

Posted

Don't get me wrong, old bean. We're not talking "Montego Turbo with knackered shocks" type torque steer, but the wheel does twitch a fair bit when you welly the buggers.

Thing is, that doesn't happen much in new stuff at all so it's becoming rarer. It's just a shame that when the Zafira does it, it's not a by-product of decent steering feel, it's just lazy engineering.

Dunno, it was the first time I'd encountered it and as a CX driver (unconventional instruments) I can jump into an everyday RHD thing and work things instantly whereas this was all backwards to expectations. Anyway, my point was also about the DIRECTION in which the wiper stalk operated: to me pressing down should activate the single wipe and then any other movements either upwards or forward/back whatever, should operate the wiper settings. It's easier to press down on a stalk while holding the 'wheel than to pull it up. Dunno what you mean by 'common market' thing.

Either way, it was still shite to operate.

post 90's saabs are pretty crap, but at least the GM 900 looked sort of like a saab and kept one decent bit - the engine. after that with the sludging 9-5's you can forget it....

To be honest I find most owners look at the classic saabs with rose tinted specs, they weren't that amazing either in some respects. The best one for me was the 96 V4 and even that had a chocolate gearbox....My T16S was great fun too, but had it's issues...
