Claypole Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Has anyone registered an import from Jersey? What malarky does it entail/cost etc. The wreck in question is already in the UK but as far as I am aware has never been registered here although a answer to a question mentions a mot from 93. I've just been to poke it today (at a pig farm of all places).
r.welfare Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 You may have to pay VAT (and I think import duty) on it as you've not owned it in the Channel Islands for six months prior to importation, if this hasn't been done already. Might be OK if it was imported back in '93...does it have a Jersey equivalent of the V5? I bought a '99 Honda Accord while I worked in Guernsey, back in 2003, and brought it back to the mainland when my contract finished in 2004. Re-registration was fairly easy - although I had to get an EU Certificate of Conformity from Honda in Germany, despite the fact it was built in Swindon to full UK spec. Ran it on Guernsey plates for a month or two, got an MOT done on the chassis number, got a VT55 (I think) to get a reg number allocated (which is what the CoC was needed for), then got some plates made up at Halfrauds (which was the hardest bit of the process - lots of documentation needed!). My V5 was then restricted insofar as if I sold the car within 12 months I'd be liable for VAT and import duty on it. Sold the car in 2006 - only queries I received were around the date of first registration, given it was 2004 but the car was on an S-prefix.
Rocket88 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Give me a bell on 07797 730957, I'll explain all........
trigger Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Your a brave man if your planning on taking that on!, I'm guessing you want it for spares for your Tii?.
Guest Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Has anyone registered an import from Jersey? Why register it - its not like it will see the road again
Claypole Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 It is for spares for the one I have already. (It's only done 27K so the trim seats etc are a damn site better than mine. I've had a chat with Colc (A very helpful chap) so will see how I get on - just wanted to do things by the book as it were.
Claypole Posted June 21, 2010 Author Posted June 21, 2010 Just a little update. Car delivered today, well left at the side of the road as the guys truck was too big to back onto the drive and one wheel was stuck solid. Whipped the front wheels off and took the pads out, hammer and chisel job on one set. Pumped up all the tyres and stuck and old tyre/rim on one front that had a split in the sidewall. Then pushed onto drive no problem. Had a poke about and found these still in the wrapping in the passenger footwell: So that sorts out the import status. Date of Liability 01 06 1985 Date of First Registration 03 12 1973 Year of Manufacture Not Available Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1990CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour BLUE
Rocket88 Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 That's bizarre. Why go to all the trouble of importing / registering etc, and then just abandoning it. My money would be on some major mechanical nastiness happening on the way back from the MOT.............
Claypole Posted June 22, 2010 Author Posted June 22, 2010 Think the spare made a break for freedom...
GJR 11L Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Must have been a swimming pool in that boot, but at least the rear damper turrets are sound and still attached to the tubs, unlike many.
