In 1990 I was driving a matt black Cortina 2.0S,this was replaced by a Rover V8 powered Granada Coupe.My 17 year old girlfriend was insured on the Granada,her own car was a Mini Clubman Estate.When this got rear-ended,she bought a very low MK 1 Escort which we painted matt black :lol: .My Dad was driving a Talbot Sunbeam Ti,he gave it to my Brother who passed his test in it :o

Our cul-de-sac in 1988-1990 was as follows:

[Father's car - the rest are just examples

Mother = Renault 11 TXE

Me = Escort III 1.3 Base.

Very good! This made me laugh! :lol:

My father had a 1987 Jaguar XJ6 in 1990. The quality square Instamatic photo says it was taken in Feb '88, but it would have looked the same in 1990. I did quite well not to have my thumb in the corner of this one.

My mum had a 1988 Peugeot 309SR, reg F543XFY in metallic blue with squishy blue velour seats and front electric windows, no less. No one seems inspired to have taken a photo of it though.

I lived on a normal street and there were only houses on one side of it; to one side the neighbour had a diesel Range-Rover classic in bright red with beige leather. His wife had a Mercedes W124 E300 diesel estate in silver with cloth seats which looked like they were made from material left over from making deck chairs.

On the other side there was a Mercedes W126 in metallic gold, I remember it had plastic hub caps despite being only a couple of years old, and a Capri 1.6 Laser.

1990. Dollywobbler Snr had his only brand new car ever. A Nissan Bluebird 1.6LS. First of all, it got broken into and the cassette player nicked (they ejected his Cliff Richard tape). Then it got nicked, thrashed and burnt out. He never owned a new car again (mind you, it was a company car, so not his technically).

Neighbours had a VW Type 2 bay pick up, a gold Beetle, a blue Vanden Plas Metro and a Ford Capri Mk1 shatlook (before it was trendy).

The family wagon in 1990 was an '85 Nissan Cherry 1.3SGL 'Maxima', owned from nearly new until 1994. Mum loved it and it was 100% reliable. Other stuff I remember from our street: Sierra Sapphire Ghia in diamond white, Rover 416 GTi in BRG and believe it or not a Morris Minor. My mate lived two doors up the road, his dad had an '88 Montego 1.6L and his brother had loads of stuff, but at that time IIRC had an '84 Escort 1.3GL.

It was!!!! I clocked you coming ages before you went past! Made my day that as I'd been really quite grumpy that morning!

Was great to see you 8)

I used to pass a red Cortina sometimes on Great Western Road in Glasg, few years back but I used to share a wave with the driver. So do you know anything about all the Vauxhall Vivas I seem to see around here? seems an unusually high concentration..

Another memory of that time was all the guys that used to tinker under the bonnets and wheel arches of their cars after dinnertime in the evenings.... just don't see that now..
