Kitchen unit collected, needs a bit of adjustment but size wise it’s pretty much perfect

Is that one of those IKEA units? Where did you end up getting a diesel heater from?

Yeah it’s an Ikea “Knoxhult” I got from Facebook second hand.

Diesel heater I ordered from Amazon, it’s a Hcalory which is the same brand I put in the T5. Had to order an all in one suitcase type which I’ll dismantle and install normally on a turret.

Touchy subject though as it was meant to be delivered last Monday by Evri and they’ve now apparently lost it so I’m fucking about with Amazon live chat trying to sort it…

I've got one of the suitcase type ones, not used it yet but it seemed rather more straightforward than buggering about with a separate diesel tank and associated pipework, plus the fuel pump they supply which rattles like a skeleton wanking in a filing cabinet.

Yeah they’re a neat idea, it’s basically a normal one in a PC tower!

Only thing is they’re not safe to install in a vehicle like that because the exhaust connection would then be inside. I’ve bought a turret plate so will just split the heater and pump etc out and mount it normally. Think I’ll also use the fuel tank they come with as I just cannot be arsed dropping the van tank to plumb a stand pipe in this time!

First fit of the sink unit today, also made a splashback/divider for behind the drivers seat

going to run some tiles on the bottom and then clad the top as the carpet looks shite

Had an email saying the diesel heater is out for delivery with Evri! Tracking updates are mental. It’s been in their system since 5th September and has gone from being out for delivery last Monday, to being declared lost, to being back at the senders depot to now being back out for delivery.

Also just found a Dometic 3 way fridge on Facebook for £30 and it’s 5 mins from my house so am picking that up later today. Still online for £329 in shops.

That's a lucky find!

I'm really enjoying following this build 🙂

Thanks mate!

In other news, FINALLY I have a diesel heater!

So what do you do when you want a particular model heater but they’re out of stock everywhere?

Buy the “suitcase” version, it’s all the same stuff but comes in a portable case, no use to go in a vehicle for safety reasons due to the exhaust… but if you dismantle it you end up with a ‘normal’ heater.. and it was cheaper than the separate out of stock version 😂

Fridge secured and I even bought a shitter whilst I was there. Never been used and wanted £10 for it.  Sold prices on eBay for second hand ones are £90 odd. Probably never use it but couldn’t say no for a tenner.

Put it this way.

Would you rather have a £10 portapotti , or be wandering around a campsite/layby/ Thetford forest 😱 in the dark and the rain, looking for a toilet block or convenient bush?

We've lugged one, or another, around for twenty years in the horse lorry/van and it absolutely guarantees that you'll usually* always be in easy reach of a toilet block. Rarely sees any action but for peace of mind it's dead handy. Strap it down well when you're on the move and buy a popup tent to stick it in when you are on a site (nothing worse than snipping off a post-curry number two in a van whilst the other half is asleep).

*house rule - you use it, you empty it :-)

Good idea on stripping down the suitcase version. The fuel tank is a better shape than the standalone version.

Oh 100% re the toilet, when they said £10 I thought it was worth taking even if I just stuck it straight back for sale! We’ll definitely keep it though. It’ll fit under the bed, we never missed having a toilet in the other vans but it’s something handy to have just in case.

Diesel heater install. Did everything bar connect the electrics up as I ran out of time.

Started to drill the 127mm hole, dewalt cordless drill started smoking.

Only corded drill I own is an SDS so slightly overkill but did the job.

Connected everything up before dropping the turret into place.

fuel filter and fuel pump connected

Just need to get some fireproof sealant to put round the turret and connect the 12v up. Oh and get some diesel…

Arguably the best way to do it as the exhaust components the kits come with are pretty shit.

Finished the electric side of the heater tonight, still don’t have my new leisure battery so just stuck my Noco jump pack on the fuse board to give me lights!

Heater now turns on, just need to fill the tank before I can test it.

Not sure if the fridge is fucked or not, when I plug it into 12v the lights dim, plugging it into mains overnight to see if it gets cold - it’s making no noise at all and it has no lights or anything to know if it’s actually on. Oh well.

EDIT: just went and checked it, it’s cold! Even has an ice tray. Happy days.

Finally have a new leisure battery.

Also collected a couple of empty gas bottles off FB today so I can exchange for a full one.

You probably already know this @JJ0063, but some of my local places are a bit funny about swapping cylinders they haven't supplied, particularly if they have a sticker on them.

There's one local bloke who doesn't seem to give a stuff though 😁.

Sorry if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs!

I’ll soon find out! There’s a few places round here I can try, I’m pretty sure the father in law exchanged one at a local camp site for his BBQ and that wouldn’t have been from there originally so hopefully I’ll be alright!

These dometic fridges are ace, I've had one for about 10 years now, it makes days out and euro trips a doddle, run them on 12v whilst driving and then pop them onto gas when leaving the vehicle.

30 quid is a smoking deal.

Just remember to disconnect your power lead when switching to the gas canister as it will continue to drain your vehicle battery at a rate of knots, I found this out rather handily whilst in the middle of France....
