I might reduce my fleet...

I have 6 cars. That's too many really; I've known this for a while! Recently been mulling over passing two or three on especially as I'm nearing completion of my Triumph 1300 refurb (delayed at present for one little part :x ) and want to use it as much as I can this summer. That means I know that some of the others will not get the use they deserve. So I am testing the water as follows:

1985 Nissan Sunny:

I've been wanting to pass this one for a while as it has been surplus to requirements as a daily driver since before winter. I washed it today and it scrubbed up lovely, started first turn to back it out too despite not being on top form due to the suspected warped head. In possible conjunction with this:

it would be a really nice car again. The engine is dear for what it is but it's on my doorstep and I might go and have a look later this week and maybe see what he'll take. I can do without the hassle at the moment but if someone wants a little project let me know!

Then there's the Mazda:

This is a rare 323 GT and it's a really nice alternative to the more well known 80s hot hatches. Very well built, handles extremely well and fairly quick and a funky period interior. Body is in very good condition with only a few small spots of rust on the extremities which would be easy to rectify though it does have a few dents and scratches but it still polishes up really nicely. It drives fine but is a bit temperamental starting (manual choke, twin carbs). I had it tuned and it was much better but it's gone off a bit with lack of use now so my plan was to give it a damn good mechanical overhaul and pretty it up, clean and paint the suspension etc but gawd knows when I'll get round to it. So, again, I'm seeing if there is any interest in someone carrying on where I left off. It's MoT'd until January next year and I'll stick 6 months tax back on so you can drive it home! It'll be a shame not to have any 80s-ness in my life but needs must.

The third one I haven't quite made up my mind about. This is my Datsun 140J Violet:

This one is ready to roll, it runs and drives very nicely (if a little old fashioned feeling). The resto job was rushed a bit (not by me I hasten to add!) and if you were picky it wants a few things doing again but certainly not for a good few years, plenty of cruising to be done and it certainly attracts attention everywhere. I fell in love with the shape of this car and had to have one despite them being incredibly rare but it is also not getting as much use as it should. However, if the other two were to go, that may change as it would be easier for me just to back it out of the garage and toddle off somewhere.

So, any thoughts? As it stands I'm looking at £250 for the Sunny. I reckon the 323 ought to be worth about £600 but I'm open to offers. The Violet - well, if someone offered me the right price I'd seriously think about parting with it. I'm still undecided but with two other classics in addition to these, there's only so much I can manage!

Cheers

You don't have too many cars, you simply don't have enough space and time. :(

Those are hard things to find. Naturally i wish you some easy sales with those lovely, lovely cars.

Liking the Nissan. 1.3 or 1.5?

Dont sell the Violet! You know you'll never, ever find another one as nice as that again....

It's a 1.3. On top form it's actually quite nippy and I was getting about 42mpg regularly on town runs. 5-speed box too.

I'm led to believe it may not be too difficult to drop a GA engine from a later car in. On the other hand it may just want the head skimming and off you go!

Triumph 1300 Front wheel drive?

Doubt it's of any interest but my local free-ads paper, last week had an ad for a pair of new front wings for a 1300 fwd, for £50. I wouldn't imagine there will be a great demand for them locally.

That's very reasonable, the going rate is 50 quid apiece these days. I have a spare pair but might be of interest to someone in the club. Any contact details?

I want that 323, but I would have absolutely no purpose for it whatsoever. Still doesn't change it though. Hmm.

The Nissan is nice, I've never been too keen on 'Japanese Metallic Green', I've had loads of cars in that colour.

Is the badge the '40 years celebration' thing? My uncle had one of these from new, and kept it for years.

I´ll give you 50 Euro for the badge on the grille of your Sunny if it is in very good condition!

Really fancy that 323, so much so that I've posted a for sale ad for my Celica. Unless you fancy a deal on an ST182

Where abouts are you, Mash? That sunny is lovely! Cant afford to buy any cars at all for the next 10 years, but it still looks like a great motor!
