Oooh a Nissan Prairie. They seem to be getting very rare now. One in gold with a brown interior for me please 8)

I remember about 10 years ago having one come into work for some rust repairs, It was a dealer part x that was being tidied up for resale, The last owner had dogs and the inside stunk, it was full of dog hairs and even had fleas hopping around inside it.I had the grim job of delivering it back to the garage after working on it on a hot day, Every time i see one i can still smell them dogs, Horrible things.

Remember I was working in a Garden Centre in the 90's one of my "duties" was to help customers by putting bags of compost in their cars (after they had bought one of course  ).I was putting an 80 Litre Arthur Bowers Multi Compost in one of these and I think I caught it on the rear hatches locking pin cos all the compost came out inside the car.It was everywhere  .Funny the things you remember but want to forget isn't it?

This was another car which was a pretty common sight on the schoolrun in Slough about 10-11 years ago, along with the Space Cruiser. To me, they looked like a mutated Micra. Rare indeed now, Ive seen about 3 in a year. Even the replacement Prarie is a rare sight now.

I still see the odd one of these, getting rare though, another of those things that you one day realise have all gone. Always thought they looked like a Metrocab, in a good way of course.

Does anybody else look at that and think 'Metrocab'?

KevfromWales over on R-R had one last year until it was stolen and burnt out. His had been converted to take a wheelchair in the back so had a really low rear deck and an almost totally flat floor - handy for his cross country tat collecting missions.

seen afew here, good motors in their day 8)

I haven't seen a mk1 Prairie in a long time.It was one of the first 'MPVs' pre-dating the Renault Espace and Chrysler Voyager by a couple of years.

A neighbour in West Wales is using an E reg one as a greenhouse - they are ideal for that!

Remember that, it was highly amusing to see he couldn't open the sliding door all the way because the wheels stuck out

My mate jack who has had his land Rover 101 and Toyota Hi-ace camper spotted on here a couple of times used to have one until the rust finally won the battle. Full of sliding door win.

I'd roll one. There was one at last years RR Gathering (Kev's ?) and they were offering up those JDM/240z/AE86 wheel arch extensions to it!

They are rusty slow fugly and obscure and for that they can be celebrated. However, I have never really seen the point in cars that the only "extra" space is above your head. What are you gonna do, drive about in a stovepipe hat?

That car was improbably GR9 4 lift-off oversteer. He'd managed to squeeze a couple more bhp out of it by butchering the exhaust into a DIY straight-through side-exit, and gave the engine no mercy. I think the blocks were shared with the Stanzas, and as such were very torquey for their size.Anorak Fact: in the Mk1s, the front and back seats could both be flattened out flush with each other, to make a double mattress. Ideal really, considering the reaction most men would get if they brought one home now.

Never...... until you said that and now..... yes! Does hark a bit to the MC

Metrocab? it says johnnycab to me :D or popemobile.. thats what I remember them being called when they were new ;)There was a kid in my class at school regularly got dropped off in a white mk1.. 3 years later we were still calling him JP, lol.

I'm with you on the Metrocab thing Fred, especially when viewed like in JHT's photo. The rear light clusters on these always screamed Range Rover to me.

I agree with the RR rear light simularities!

All this 80s MPV talk got me thinking, has anyone seen a first generation Spacewagon lately? Another rarity.

Haven't seen a Mk1 Space Cruiser for at least eight years. And there is a fair amount of tat around here, so they must be bloody rare

One of the MOT testers at the local garage had a B reg one in that pale metallic green they used to come in, it really was heroically rusty by the time he scrapped it.

ninja edit; there's a 'crusier on ebay at the mo. too lazy to look it up soz

I've done that with a bag of compost on the hatch locking thing on a new Civic. I wasn't letting the bugger beat me so I just pushed it in, and it spilled a 1/4 out, and you can't move it as it just spews more and more out! There are about three Space Cruisers on The Wirral. They look about 5 foot off the ground, no skirts or anything.

Back in 1982/83 my Dad owned a Nissan Cherry so he got invited to the opening launch evening of the Praire & Micra. I went along with him of course & thought it was well exciting. I cam home with an armful of brochures. Wished I'd hung on to them.
