Toxic Avenger anyone?

This delightful Avenger wagon is available in Camelford, North Cornwall. Its been languishing behind a Garage for about 12 months now after it was having some bodywork done and the old boy owner cashed in his chips. The car was left to the Garage owner to dispose of, and he would like £100 for it which will be donated to local charity. Its tax exempt, and starts and moves under its own power....

Tiger Sport Wheels or Television South West?

That's gotta be worth a ton of anyone's money! Estate cars of even the most common place vehicles from the 60s & 70s are very thin on the ground!

Z00FALATR0N!!!!I should play the "distance card" here. However, if it really is rock solid and it's tax exempt, where would you find another?YGPM!

If that wasnt so far away i'd be giving it a home in a shot

I used to have one of those, wasn't quite mint condition though:

I'd driven it up and down the curly-wurly car park ramp that used to be behind the town center in Kings Lynn, deliberately bashing it along the sides just for laughs.

Nice setting too, isn't it? A rough old estate, on a rough old estate. It's North Lynn, I lived a stone's throw from the shops which, for years, had the word S K I N H A E D S daubed on the side in huge letters.

The Estates were actually nicer cars to drive than the saloons were. They had extra axle location IIRC which meant the handling was measurably better.I'd love it, I found a 30k from new 1300 2dr in a barn about 10 years ago, gave the bloke a drink for it, drove it home, stuffed it in the back of Motorsport News and sold it to a rallyist days later for £400. Always regretted it.

What was it like when you got it? How long ago was that? I take it it wasn't your only car at the time unless you were craving a rat look! What happened to it after that? :(

Relax, it was about 1987. I'd just bought a Mk3 Capri (with a bank loan), and sold the Avenger to some bloke who knocked on the door for £70. Little did I know the engine in the Capri was about to go pop, leaving me without wheels...

So it would have been the equivalent today of a knackered MkIII Astra estate or something?

An Avenger with a TSW sticker in it is pretty close to being my dream car......only an Allegro with a TSW sticker would be better! Hope someone saves this.

Watch it Regie, I have a knackered Mk3 Astra diesel estate!!!!!

I could have said Escort or Mondeo estate! I hope you haven't been bashing yours about? :D

Its the same as my dear old mummys car. I travelled everywhere in the boot as a kid. When she emigrated in 79, I was 17 and she left it for me it was a great car. I am very interested in this and would like to get it over to Cambridgeshire. I'll work on how later. Can you PM me with any contact details for the garage.Jon

This thread has reminded me that I promised to dig out, scan and post the Land's End-John O'Groats in a £50 heap feature from an early edition of Top Gear magazine. So far I've done the digging out bit :)

Yes please, I remember this - it was GR8! I think the Avenger was yellow with mismatched red panels?

(I recycled my vast collection of TG magazine from issue 1 onwards some years ago  - my screwed-to-the-wall bookshelf was threatening to collapse under the weight... yes I had them all on a shelf, in order)

If anyone in the area or passing there used to be a well shagged looking Avenger estate in a small holding field 'twixt Shrewsbury and Oswestry. It was there for what seemed like light years and probably still is.

I did phone up the garage owner about this Avenger, he mentioned various things which put me off, such as the engine not running for a year and the interior being totally knackered, and that and the cost of delivery, and added to the fact that I was working in London, the car was in Cornwall and would have to have been driven to and stored in West Wales, meant I passed on it.

Shame really, but you can't save them all!
