If all else fails monsieur Nutsack I bet Norauto will do you a cracking deal* of 4 of their own brand special pneus…. Bonus of perusing the many styles of trailer (every branch seems to have dozens) whilst you wait.

Does anyone here have any experience of Simca's when they were current? IIRC, our local Talbot dealer ran a van version until about 1985 but that's about it. I don't even remember driving any around the auction ring in 1988 as they'd all disappeared by then.

This was my only brief dabble in Simca ownership - this was 2007 so they weren't exactly current then but there were probably a few more around than there are now.

Decent selection of old landfill in that photo Wuvvum, could have been taken many years earlier than 2007. What happened to the van?

I got it running and driving but it had a broken front torsion bar (not too evident when I collected it as with the oversized wheels the front inner wing was basically sitting on the tyre so the ride height looked fairly normal).  Mr_B brought along a spare Solara torsion bar to see if it'd fit but it didn't look like it would.  Then the council started moaning about the van so I had to sell it on.

Instructions: current RH front wheel straight into the boot as the spare. LH front wheel and current spare to get the new tyres and fit those on the front axle. They guy looked totally bewildered so let's see what happens

Les Rosbifs and their strange ideas! Good luck.

Seems simple enough - but these places tend to be staffed by the terminally bewildered. If you'd have had more time I'd have recommended any local garage. 👍

It will be more like they want to make the extra sale of +1. 'Feu Vert' are another outfit I'd never use again too.

Had a swap round of the wheels earlier to make the job easier to explain/understand. Check out this lot:

It's absolutely immaculate under here. Seems a shame to bring it to our rainy salty island really. I'll bosh some anti rust gloop under here I guess but it's hard to keep it away 100% I can imagine in a year or two this car finding its way to that lad in Chesterfield to have a new pair of inner sills welded on using a PP9 battery or whatever it is he's got

Wow,  how clean is that?!

That's a prime candidate for Lanoguard. Steam clean the hell out of it, wire brush the flaky bits and lather it in sheep juice.

By the looks of that old tyre it might be worth getting them to have a look at "le tracking", just to further add to the bewliderment? be a shame to knacker your new tyres before you even get home. I say this from experience of doing a pair of brand new Nankangs in on my old t25 down almost to the bastard cords in 200 miles. Broke my heart so much I kept them (in case they came in handy) and have had them stored in my council lockup in rotherham for 12 years now.

You're not wrong, but I'm not gonna bother. If I get home and I have wrecked a 'Habilead' I shall use it as an excuse to buy 5 new matching tyres of some sort I think.

I've never seen an 1100 at a show or even on the road but one did feature recently in 'La Vie de L'Auto' - 2 May edition. Was at a car show in Alsace.

"Ambiance depart en vacances" - indeed.

Just walked past the open workshop door and noticed they've fitted a new tyre on the back 🙄 still , let's let em finish and see what the end result is.

I'd have thought the bigger should be on the back (seem to recall it was the 'law' back in the day) but as long as on one axle (obvs) it should be ok. That cracked former spare also looks to have separated and would blow out quite quickly imho.

Monsieur Hulot is still with us...

"Monsieur, we can't fit these for you, they're the wrong size, insurance problems" I explained thd situation and they rang round trying to find 145s. None were available predictably. I said "I understand and accept the risk of fitting these tyres that are 10mm too wide. But its an emergency situation for me. Why don't you just note it on the receipt and I'll sign to show I fully understand"

Ok. now they're cracking on again.

make sure you take your time to become familiar with the changes in handling and roadholding that you'll experience with this radical modification.

Bet youre wondering how much this adventure is all costing. I am too, i havent added it up yet. I had in mind that the car cost €1200 and everything else adds up to probably about the same again. I feel I might have underestimated it a bit though. I will have a tot-up when I am home and can see what my credit card and bank statements look like. Will give you a cost breakdown then.

the imaginary internet tokens you have received far outweigh any actual physical financial burden. When the credit card bill arrives you can just print all the likes out and post them back in an SAE and tell barclaycard to get themselves felt

The car is a bargain at €1200. There really is not much going at that price these days.  LeBonCoin average is €3-5000 - Ti's pushing €10,000.

Sitting in the NorAuto waiting area. Check out this natural history-themed local theme park. I'd love to sit in a massive travelling walnut and get attacked by a giant dragonfly
