Frustrated and lonely?

No luck with women?

You need Vicsmith's Escort Service!

Top quality. Discreet and professional. Call Wakefield 377774 and ask for Vic, try to ring late on, if he's not there don't bother leaving a message, just ring in an hour or so. He shares the phone with a taxi office and they're useless at passing messages on.

Here's some pictures of the talent:-

Nice eh? Old pensioner example, only had chance to give it a quick clean. I'm going to drive this to work for a week, a task I am looking forward to. Being the 1.6 it goes at a fair old pace! The handling is nice too, plus the usual slick gearchange you get on old Fords. Mint set of trims were sourced off Retro Rides a while ago. Dealer plates for some place called "Crocketts", who must be good as they have their

You get some nice stuff in the GL - central locking, sunroof, ceiling clock, etc.

Plus this lovely autoscan radio complete with a dial to balance the sound from left/right/front/rear, I had a right time driving through Ossett sending Kate Bush all over the joint.

Overall I'm impressed so far, you really don't see these MK4s around nowadays, especially not the prefacelift. Looks great in this colour I reckon. I've always been pretty fond of MK3/4 Escorts, there's just something quite neat about them.

Vic will probably be around in a bit, provided Bullseye isn't on.

I didn't even realise that was linky text and I was lolling

That would look lovely parked on my drive next to my Mk3......is it for sale perchance??The 1.6's do go well don't they. When I got mine I was quite amazed how much quicker it was than the 1324cc 323 I had. I was obviously expecting it to be a bit quicker but it was a LOT quicker.I remember looking at a 1.4 ghia very similar to that back in 1988/89 to replace the 86 1.4 popular I had.

Ford design meeting:

"Its a GL, so best put some slick touches in there, guys. Like, say, one of them new-fangled stereos with speaker balancing. And - get this - a digital clock on the ceiling!!!"

"That sounds wicked!! How about a nice flap over the filler cap as well, to smooth off the panel?"

"Don't be stupid, you facking tart. As if anyone's gonna notice that?!"

Shudder, I had a burgundy one with a blown up CVH. I then had a mk4 Orion with a blown HG and it broke down in the Mersey tunnel. They do feel quite well built and 'cozy' inside.

Thats fantastic, despite the fact Basingstoke seems to have a ridiculous amount of these MKIVs still on the road, I havent seen one that clean for ages. 100/10.

That is mega cool. Those direct volume balance things are super ace, I remember my mates dad getting a new Sierra "D-reg" with that in it, mhours of fun with Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds...1.6 is quite a useful tool, plenty enough legs on them. I've had 2 1300cc versions of these and found them to be thoroughly acceptable if slightly embarrassing transport.

Does it have brown bumpers? I only remember brown bumpers on beige MK4s, of around C/D reg. Didn't know they lasted this long. Were there any other novelty colours for bumpers other than the brown (and obv. black/grey) ones?

Edited for accuracy

Very nice. My Dad's Sierra had one of those stereos. I remember it was fuggin' ace.

It will be at some point fairly soon! You could be this man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAAEc88-G20With regards to the bumpers, they are the "pigmented" brown ones, I think they were only on certain upper-spec metallic models. Similar story on Sierras of the period. Brightens them up a bit.

Heres my mk3 at Chumley.....it looks like Ford were also still using Champagne Gold in 88 as well.

Mine has that joystick thingy and the digital roof clock too...must have been pretty cool back in 84.

Courtesy of Google:

"The new Escort looks terribly boringly, people! What can we grant the GL model so that it the Britons buy? Perhaps a clock at the roof sky?""You are yes entire behämmert, dock Uwe! The idea is not so bad, would have can of me!""That spin, the Britons!"

Wow - I think I've just discovered the source of Raymanboy's assaults on language. Turns out he's foreign, and thinks teh interwebz can help him translate his adverts. I actually feel quite sorry for him now :(

The translation is one of the funniest things I´ve seen for a long time!:lol::lol::lol:

Those are in my Top 10 favourite wheels of EVAR. Seriously, for understated yet ultracool rimmage, you couldn't do much better.

Yeh, I've got the plastic full trimz but I prefer it with the trim rings and centre covers too.

The most novel bumper colours were on the Eclipse, right at the end, Eclipses came in really nice Met. Blue or Met. Burgundy, with corresponding Dark Blue or Burgundy pigmented bumpers, slightly classier and a lot easier to maintain than painted bumpers. This idea carried on up until the MK6, you occasionally got oval-grille Met. Blue LX`s with Blue-pigment bumpers, right up to M-reg, then they must have sacked it off. Shame really, it made a lot of sense and distinguished the car from the entry-level easily enough.I don`t know if its the colour, the fact that these have vanished around these parts or indeed the brown bumpers, but this thing looks so unfamiliar on the roads around here now, driving behind it was like following some weird Aussie-import Ford or something, an effect that hasn`t really translated to the pictures, and is difficult to account for.

I think it's also because the only mk3/mk4's left in any numbers tend to be the XR3/RS Turbo models and they are the ones people remember. The lesser models were largely unloved I guess and have pretty well disappeared from the roads (as have 'normal' Fiesta Mk2 models).Thats what attracted me to my Mk3, the 'rarity' of them in that kind of condition. The MOT tester even questioned why I would want one but he did admit to liking it.Mind you, it is basically a 30 year old design I guess. I always think it's amusing that young kids must look at these cars now the way I looked at Anglias and HA Vivas back in the 80's.

Nice! Very tidy.My mum had an E-plate "LX" model with the then-brand-new 1.4 motor. Nice car, finished in late-80s-special red over grey. That had most of the 'luxuries' you see there, the roofclock and speaker joystick and sunroof. From my memories of the '88 Cars brochure, the GL of that era gained you 'leccy front windows and nicer wheeltrims. Oh, and the slightly clumsy silver trim around the windows that you see there - where the rear quarterlight has a radius, but the trim finishes in a point.

This thread has just reminded me of a funny (IMHO) story. I was in hospital recovering from an appendix operation back in 88 and the fella with a newspaper trolley comes around. I ask what magazines he has and he says 'Escort & Fiesta' and I genuinely thought he meant car magazines! Oh, how innocent I was back then!

It actually looks odd just for being a completely bog-standard Escort with Ford trims, instead of £15 motor factor "it'll do" ones or a set of doglegs. Just gives it a certain something!

Yeah yeah, and you thought Big 'n' Bouncy was about Uncle Buck's car

Never thought I'd say this about a Mk4 Escort, but that looks very nice. I was pleased to see this equally clean one last year, with what appear to be proper GL wheeltrims:

I used to have the occasional drive of my sister's 1.3 Mk4, and that was far better than I imagined/hoped it would be.

Wooo! Escort GL fest!

Mine wasn't quite as nice as the F reg one. Dig the colour coded wheel trims. :D

Never thought I'd develop a desire for an Escort tbh but thats really nice. Quite fancy a good Mk3 / 4 before prices get silly which surely they will in another five years.

No, they're not OMG RWD OSF-fodder so I very much doubt they'll go through the roof at any stage. Considering Sierras are still fairly cheap and undesirable to all but actual drftrrrzzz (and us), I wouldn't rush out and buy one of these for investment.I would rush out and buy one just for the sheer fun/instant street cred of it, though.

True, but there will be fewer decent ones about and they won't get much cheaper than they are now. Being Fords there will always be some sort of following as well.
