Amelia's Automotive Adventures - The car in front is ... faded red and high mileage!

Latest addition.  On the way to collect, it's only a few miles away so no collection thread.

195k mile Yaris!

It will serve as a commuter car until I get the jobs the Kenari needs for the MOT done.

Is that a bASe spec Yaris? I vaguely recall entering a competition to win one just like this back in '99.

Think so.

It's got wind up windows, but does appear to have ABS.

He's a biker, although not ridden for a while due to an accident.

I'll try to get him on here if I can.

He's more into classics and muscle cars, but slowly being educated in the ways of 'shite 😅

Weird question, but can you remember who ran that competition?

I ask because MrsDC's first car was a bASe spec 1999 three-door Yaris in that purpley-blue colour, which had apparently been won in a competition by its first owner - and had then passed through a further six owners inside three years, before she acquired it.

She's not got many pictures of it, but has commented on how the interior plastics looked and felt like an unpainted Airfix kit. It had the same wheeltrims as @Amelia's, too - I believe the lowest trim tier available from a dealer was S, but she always wondered if there was a sub-base variant for fleet buyers which was even more spartan. She's adamant that the rear parcel shelf only had a lifting cord on one side, which seems like the ultimate in cost cutting.

She chopped it in after two years for a brand new run-out model Yaris Colour Collection 5dr in 2005, with unparalleled luxuries such as electric windows, power steering and actual carpet (rather than some sort of pressed fibre on the floor) - and still has it.

The original 'prize' Yaris still shows on the DVLA database as SORN'd. Just curious in case it was the car you tried to win!

I think it was with the local newspaper Eastern Evening News / Eastern Daily Press in Norfolk, England. Perhaps run in conjunction with the local Toyota dealer at the time.

My Avensis came with one of those when I bought in about 02.  Forgot all about it. Never actually used it, just left it in the folder until we sold it.  Oddly we saw it up country near my MIL a year or so back, checked online, it was just coming up 200k.  Brilliant car.

Congrats on the engagement 👍

I had a new company Avensis estate in 2003 that also came with these paint stickers, great idea, never used. Took it to 150k and traded it in for an Octavia and the Toyota now shows as exported.

Bummer 😭😭😭.

I'd go 1-1 though, check your boot opens and closes properly the spare wheel well is ok.

That combo would pull out in about 2 mins with a strap wrapped round a lampost ..... Ask me how I know such things 😂😂😂.

Yeah, boot is fine, bumper a tiny bit pushed in.

My neck, back and shoulders though...

Ah blimey not so good then. Easy to fix though if you like the car, block of wood and a hammer or a porta power set would fix it quite easily if they let you keep the car for free.

I know the combo looked worse but there's a lot of room behind those front panels and it takes the impact really well hence it will be an easy fix.

I've seen your skills and your crew fixing up the extra van and other chod so repairing that will be a breeze.

Sound deadening pads and seam sealer will hide a multitude of sins. Plus you'll only need to brush on/spray underseal to hide it underneath.
