My Halfords hydraulic jack is approx 2 years old and despite being barely used, it leaks oil good and proper. What oil shall I use to top it up? Is ATM ok?Should I bother trying to re-seal it or is it best to leave it as is?Cheers guys.

TWO YEARS?? And barely used?Take the feckin useless thing back to Halfrauds for a refund or exchange - the Sale of Goods Act 'fitness for purpose' clauses are good for six years from purchase, and your contract is with the retailer NOT the manufacturer. Have the number of your local Trading Standards dept handy...

I abuse the hell out of my £20 Clarke jack, and it hasn't lost a drop of fluid in the four years I've had it. If they won't take it back fire off an angry letter to head office.

Seems to me,if you use your trolley jack regularly,it'll last for ages.I had one in the car which was hardly used, when I did need it,it didn't work due to no fluid :?

My dad has had his trolley jack for atleast 5 years, and it is rather used and abused, and that still works .As already mentioned, go back to halfords and say you are not happy.Good luck.P.s -Tayne that pictures great (I don't know why) , Do you have any more like it ?

I've got two of them Halfrauds trolley jacks, both have been mega good. Same can't be said for their "top spec" battery charger, which is now only fit for the bin. I cannot find the receipt so chances of a refund are fuck all I suspect.

i got a Lidl cheapy trolley jack, it last less than a year, next one i bought from a car boot sale, british made 1960's job, works fine, and if it leaks, seals are still available

Mine was inherited when my dad died about seven years ago. He had had it for donkeys years. It looks like it has been run over by a tank but performs as new, with never a drop of oil lost.

Can't remember where I bought my jack. It might have been Halfrauds but it was nearly 30 years ago so I can't say. Never lost a drop in all this time. :D

I have jacks from Halfords and Lidl that work fine and a collection of Sealy, Kamasa, JCB and a few others that dont work

Can anybody help? I bought a car last year with a new Halfords battery. The battery was dead by December (no charge whatsoever), and although the prvious owner bought the battery, I feel a bit conned having something for 6 months and then having to buy another one. Where do I stand?

Station - Read the battery , sometimes they say on them something like "2 Year Guarantee" If so , get to your nearest Halfords (I'm guessing that would be Brombrough, which is full of kids that know F*ck all)Hopefully yours has the big HALFORDS sticker on it , as they will no doubt ask for a reciept. I am sure if you push enough, and explain it has a big sticker saying halfords , they "may" change it for you.Good luck (If not then PM me, as i might have a battery for you)

PM me what the battery is for, and round or "square" terminalsI have a spare battery here if you need

I have a brand new one, unfortunately, it's too big for the car and won't fit in the tray properly. The one I had was really small size.

I bought a J.C.B. hydraulic jack about 5 years ago; it gets used almost daily and hasn't spilt a drop of fluid! Best little toy I've bought in years!

Very often they have an indicator of the date sold on them - usually a sticker with dots pulled off to show month/year of sale.Alternatively the previous owner may have a receipt?

My aforementioned £20 jack is great, but I do wish I'd spent a little more for one which could lift a bit higher. If I want to use my axle stands at full height I've got to put a bunch of wood on top of the jack.

If it's a brand only one store sell, you have a case for a refund without a reciept, but you might have to settle for an exchange or credit note.

Halfords batteries have the production date stamped on them, conveniently, so you might be able to argue your case from there. On the flipside I took a dead one back after a year, with a receipt and they refused to change it. They had some mickey mouse battery testing machine that didn't load the battery up, so although was showing full voltage because I'd had it on charge it didn't have the balls to crank a car and they wouldn't change it. Next time I'll make sure I kill it properly with an old spanner across the terminals.Hopefully your store aren't a bunch of know-it-all wankers like mine are.

I bought a trolley jack from Aldi about four years ago for £9.99. It's been GR10, never lost any oil and once held the entire front end of the Volvo 164 up in the air for three weeks without sinking at all. Seems to be a bit of the luck of the draw involved where cheap hydraulic stuff is concerned.

My halfords jack was doing great until the Range Rover shifted slightly while jacking and the jack twisted onto it's side. Manage to salvage the handle and ram and that was about it really. Was a great jack until then :?
