Great pics, looks like an excellent show. Bit baffled by the Mk 2 Cortina GT estate - the whole rat-look thing absolutely mystifies me! Why would you want to let a car you value just rot away instead of doing something about it? I do sort of understand the concept of patina, and not over doing the restoration, but to deliberately neglect a car, and even try to make it worse, is just crazy! Isn't it?

Eh? That Cortina isn't twat-look, I can't see anything about that patina that looks contrived. Looks to me like an honest old shitter that hasn't been washed since about 1987, which is what all old cars should look like in my opinion.

It's only a 'car of value' because a bunch of anoraky exhaust pipe polishers with too much money and time have decided it is, and those are the people that deserve derision. Shiny cars are great and all that but they do get boring after a while.

I always like your photos.

The Sierra was on a classified ad on e-bay earlier this year, asking price was around Ã‚Â£1000 and I think that it mentioned that the rear parcel shelf was missing.

The red Cortina 1.6GL, we used to MOT that around 10 years ago, from what I remember it had been Ziebarted from new, all the engine bay was black except where there had been an acid leak from the battery.

The white Vanden Plas 1500 belongs to someone who I went to school with, he had until recently a white MK 1 Granada Perana. Did you notice how new the front fog lamps were on the Vanden? We had a pair of new Allegro accessory fog lamps kicking around at work for years and we gave them to him.

I've driven that Gold 3 litre Capri, my boss used to own it. He's got a 2.8i Turbo one now.

I'll have to get down to Helmingham Hall this Sunday.

I cut up an MGC GT which looked just like this - except it was red and gold. 55 PJO was the reg. Had all the 'trick' bits you could get in the '70s on it, e-type wires (instead of Minilites), triple Weber DCOEs, Mota-Lita wheel etc.

Still one of the most satisfying afternoons I've ever had, that.

Your pics are always first class, Trig. Puts the rest of us to shame!

I like the simple lines of the immaculate green Hillman Hunter , so thats my choice out of that lot.

Have they sorted the massive queues to get in? Last time I went, about four years ago, it was a joke. Took about an hour to creep the last half mile, causing gridlock around the main roads. Loads of cars overheating. I vowed I wouldn't venture there again!

Thanks for the kind words Booby, I never found the traffic to be to bad to be honest, the traffic on the way out can be a bit slow but nothing more then can be expected.

If you read the grille badge, and in fact the info card, this isn't a Singer at all, it's a Sunbeam. I worked with a lad whose parents had one, many years ago. When I challenged him on his billing of it as a Sunbeam, he told me that while Rootes had decided to kill off the Singer brand, production of the Vogue model continued for several months, so the completed cars were sold as Sunbeams. But then they were all consolidated as Hunters, except for the Humber Sceptre, so most of the badge-engineered models died. That would be 1971, I think.

Regards that Vogue, I was reading that they was badged as a Sunbeam for only 6 months back in 1970 which must make it pretty rare.

52, 53, I was close... And Mercury is a sub-marque of Ford, so that works too. In fact without looking too closely it's easy to see the generic Ford styling cues of the day... I wouldn't have expected a 5.7 in it, probably more like 4.4, but it's old enough to have had a transplant or two in its time...

Amazing!! I actually doubt it looked that pristine the day it was made!! Can't decide if I like the Lancia or not, but gotta love the individuality of it. Always loved Lambo Espadas, but have only ever seen 1, at Santa Pod, way back in the 70s.

That PA belongs to a work colleague, he's restored it all himself, including painting it and has owned the car for well over 20 years and for some reason puts twin aerials on the rear and sometimes a Tiger tail hanging from the rear view mirror onto his cars.

He's got a few others as well, a PA Cresta with a V8 engine in it, a PA Victor which has a missing front bumper, pitted bright work, faded paint with surface rust (not done on purpose but genuine for its age), which he calls Dorothy. You wouldn't give Dorothy a second look if you saw it at a show, but stick your head underneath and she's immaculate. He's currently in the process of restoring a PA Cresta two door estate, this was made into a two door after it left the factory.

His knowledge of them is endless, we are always trying to find one that he either hasn't owned before or doesn't know of. Give him the registration number of one and you'll get its previous history, who owned it when and where and its original registration number.

In the local paper this last week there's been a small article about a little car show being organised to raise some money for a Aviation museum here in Ipswich, I never even knew that this place existed so i thought it might be something to do for the day as the weather was hot.

It was the first time that this place has had a show and they were quite strict as they was only insured for 60 vehicles but i suspect that they will do it again as it was a good turnout.

Here's a selection of the cars that turned up, sorry They aren't the greatest photos, I was struggling with the low, bright sun a bit.

This Buick is often used for 1/4 mile drag races, check out the rubber on the rear quarters!
