Don't tell me that 2 door Cavalier is getting scrapped?! , Rare as hens teeth!.

Posted

That cav coupe has to be worth something to someone.Whats the red thing with 'AUTOSPAZ' or something written on it?Thanks for sharin'.

Posted

Cavalier! XR! Those two 156s! A bit of a premature death for those two surely!

Posted

The little red thing is a Mazda AZ-1, a kei car in the same vien as the Suzuki Cappuccino. Odd to see one in a scrappys, I would have thought itd worth something, unless it crashed or something. Arent 156s woefully unreliable?

Posted

Mazda AZ1 - been there years, owner says it's a Capuchinko... err ok mate. Not sure on the Cav but it was at the front not piled up so can't have been there too long - the dealer sticker in the rear window is from Barnsley same place as the yards are so it's not been around the world and back from where it 1st came from. The yard is Milton Goughs if anyone needs to know details etc. Those Alfa's were lovely. The seats looked very nice just a shame they have Alfa stitched into them. Red one even had the original wheel trims inside it.Oh and on plus side I found 16pence inside a Clio. 8)

All I seem to remember about them was something about the smaller spark plugs in the twin sparks cost something mental like £80 each. Thought they were ok apart from that - big improvement on 155s.

Ah, still a shame to see them there, perhaps shite of tomorrow at the rate they are entering scrapyards.

Thanks for sharing your finds !Shame about the XR3 (i so want them wheels)and shame about the cavalier

Posted

Aha - that would explain why when I opened the bonnet on the red one the plug leads were all over the place - looking like it had plugs missing - as if they have two per cylinder or something weird?

Posted

Yeah a normal one and a small one per cyliner as I recall.

Correct :) The set of 8 cost about £80 (not each  ) but only need replacing about every five years. Those two 156s look undamaged so they are probably there with terminal engine failure caused by a broken cambelt; i'm surprised that they didn't go to a specialist Alfa breaker, though.Should I be depressed that the newer one is only a year older than mine, or chuffed because the rarity will now make mine more valuable

If I remember rightly, the reason that AZ 1 is in there is because its last owner was shot behind the wheel. Or something like that.

Give them a call for a price on the wheels - can pop over anytime to get them and post them onwards or something? :)

Sorry to sound abit dumb, but what is the Yard called ?Hopefully a google search of the name, shall provide a phone number

Posted

Not at all :) Milton Goughs 01226 725356 Shaw Lane Barnsley - can see it on Google maps - there a bus yard across the road for the bus people too.

Scrapyards really are simultaneously fascinating and depressing places! Absolutely astonished to see an MGB in there! There seems to be such a huge demand for them that I'd have thought anything remotely saveable would be worth good money.

Posted

Nice to see a proper old scrapyard like that, seem to be getting rarer now.

Posted

That 2-door cavalier is worth decent coin if its not utterly rotten beyond repair, i bet it would make £400 as is on eBay.

Posted

The MGB could be a 'scrappage' car as several of the rubber bumper ones have gone that way.

Ooh, do tell.
I heard that. I actually think it was on here.I think the scrapyard owner wants 6k for it or something. I think the shell would actually be a nice purchase, as it still has the underneath bits. Would be a bugger to get the parts though, they share loads with the Cappuccino fortunately. Always nice to see them.

Someone needs to get that Cavalier out of there fast! £400 on ebay could be a couple of hundred to be made.
