How bad a decision can one make - XJR edition

Would love one of these myself, but reckon I'd get too much hassle from SWMBO about it, she was annoyed enough at the "old man car" S-type!

With the key fob, have you tried to re-pair it to the car? Jag have some weird methods, I think in the S-type you had to turn the key from 0 to 2 in the ignition about 10 times whilst holding the brake, then press another button and it'd re-pair. In the X350s I have a funny feeling its something odd like holding a climate control button whilst flashing the headlights 10 times, or some other bizzare combo🤣 but it might do the trick!

Tried the key pairing/dogging procedure and no joy. There is a short to ground error for the security module so I'll start there. Sdd said so...

Unusual update.
So I've bought another XJR. 500 mile round trip in the range rover which is such a good tow car and I'm really glad I got it. This one is FAR nicer than the one I have however it is on 176k miles. When I first found this one I thought I'm going to steal a "few" parts off of it to make mine nice. Having seen it in the flesh it is WAY to nice to do that to it. It's got a running issue which I believe is down to some serious botchery by a mechanic who last worked on it. See pictures for a hacked up o2 sensor wiring, hard to see but the mechanic has chopped off the connectors and put a house block connector in. Completely exposed to the elements. Predictably it is showing codes for this.
Has a slight oil leak but I think it's from the drain plug so easy fix with a service. Other than that it's been fastidiously maintained by a proper enthusiastic owner. See bill for £7.7k when he bought it.
So, get running right, fix leak, MOT and then decide if I want to keep this one or my original one. One of them will be going up for sale and I will of course offer it up on here. Either way it'll be the cheapest XJR in the country. Hold off on this decision till the summer, and first refusal please! 😅

Wow. You don't do things by half @DirtyDaily@DirtyDaily.  Looking forward to the fixing thread.

I wonder if the chocolate block 'mechanic' is the same vandal that was let loose on @Crispian_J_Hotson's S-BYPE R?

They do seem to attract butchers unfortunately. Maybe no more than other big thirsty saloons though.

I'll see if I can find the invoice. Feel sorry for the previous owner. Absolutely fine with spending the money on it to keep it in good condition all round but he was let down by a cowboy. It'll be a nice one to get back on the road and when I give it a drive I'll see if I want to keep it or keep my original one.

Its a crying shame indeed, you only want the best for a car and someone else completely screws it up. Definitely keep them for another 3 or 4 months when I might be able to spend some money again.😂

Autoshite has had a very bad effect on me..........I've started actively looking for shite that I've seen in people's threads on here!!  :)

Saw this.............and thought of of this thread (not trying to point a finger at you - no pressure).  I'd actually look at this if it wasn't for the fact that I'm a 1 in (my Lotus right now) and 1 out.....so until the Excel is finished I'm not, technically, looking officer!  :)

Needs welding but that colour and those wheels.  Ooof.  Much ooof.

If only they made an XJR with that body, those wheels, that colour, but the x350 interior.....think I'd sell a Kidney for it😆
