Fred Astaire with his 1960 Chrysler Imperial

1960 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron.  Imperial was it's own separate marque from 1955-75, spun off from Chrysler to compete with Cadillac and Lincoln.  Although, to be fair, everyone still calls them Chrysler Imperials, since Chrysler had been using the Imperial name since 1926.

In ascending order of price and prestige, 1960 Imperial models were Imperial Custom, Imperial Crown, Imperial LeBaron, and the very rare long-wheelbase Crown Imperial Limousine.  During this time, Imperial was unique among Chrysler Corporation divisions in that its cars used body-on-frame construction with a separate chassis.  Chrysler, Dodge, DeSoto, and Plymouth all made use of monocoque construction in 1960.

But the 1960 Imperial's best party trick were automatic swiveling seats!  Why don't cars have these today?

IIRC, the frog-hued Scrote was Regan's own car, and he gave it the proper beans round a particularly grim part of THAT LONDON.

We were not allowed to watch The Sweeney mainly as it was on ITV. No idea why that was a 'thing' but my folks viewed it as a bit downmarket? They were more Dixon of Dock Green (aka Paddington Green) viewers - didn't like too much of the old rough n tumble (even if Jack Warner did get shot dead in the original film).

Given I ended up working for the same employer down in That London - bit ironic really.

WTF was that all about back then? You didn’t watch ITV because it was too common or corrupting or something.

My parents were never like that, but I remember my grandparents were.

"Did you see that train crash on the news?"

"Which channel?"

"Well, I saw it on ITV, but surely any chan....."

"Oh, we wouldn't have seen it then."
