scruff Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Wow WVM I got hit by an artic in one of the company LRs on the A1M a few years ago, someone didn't see me and pulled off the hard shoulder right under the bumper. I anchored up, span on the wet tarmac and... Bump on my head, otherwise fine. The Landy drove onto the low loader, the tractor unit that hit me had to be craned onto a transporter.
VWPowered Posted March 19, 2010 Author Posted March 19, 2010 is this what happened to the clio i wonder
Polystratus Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 this what happened to the clio i wonderYou could be onto something there, it's the same sort of incident.
MrRegieRitmo Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 These video clips really send a chill down my spine
worldofceri Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 is this what happened to the clio i wonderWithout a doubt. Except judging by the face that they're travelling in lane 2, I wouldn't be surprised if the Clio pulled out on the lorry making it more likely that the driver is genuinely oblivious. The car is in a blind spot for the trucker, unbelieveable as that sounds. Interesting that the truck pushes the car for just as long in the clip above (on a dry road) as in the UK clip (very wet road). Obviously we don't know the circumstances, and it's unfortunate that the clip starts when it does, but I hope a professional driver doesn't lose his livelihood due to the actions of some dipshit car driver and some sort of OMG DEATH TRUCKER SCUM media frenzy.
Mr Lobster Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Obviously we don't know the circumstances, and it's unfortunate that the clip starts when it does, but I hope a professional driver doesn't lose his livelihood due to the actions of some dipshit car driver and some sort of OMG DEATH TRUCKER SCUM media frenzy.Quite possibly not the truck drivers fault with the Clio and I'd hope the media frenzy doesn't see him lose his job if its not his fault. He very probably would be able to see the Clio until it was too late, and once he had hit it, maybe he didn't brake that hard to try and avoid jacknifing the truck and making matters a whole lot worse.
retrogeezer Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Well, I don't see why the truck driver should lose his job for having an 'accident' and I would find it very hard to believe he would have done it on purpose. Also, I would have thought the best thing to do in that situation would be to just come off the gas and coast to a halt if possible rather than braking and flinging the Clio off the front?
Lankytim Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Apparently the whole situation was resoilved by Arclid transport and the rozzers back in January, since this clip has come to light the police are looing back into it and the driver has been suspended. Id be pretty miffed had I been that driver!Looking at the clip it wouldnt surprise me the clio moved over to allow cars, such as the camera car to join the A1. Unfortunately the clio driver didnt see the lorry. Well it does weigh 44t and is 50ft long so its easy to miss. The road looks wet so the clio could be pushed along easily with very little drag on the truck. I bet a good gust of headwind would have more effect on the trucks speed than a trapped french shopping trolley. The clio *should* be visible to the lorry driver but if hes a bit of a short arse, and has the air suspension seat turned off so the seat is on the deck (V common, as they never seem to work properly) then theres every chance he wouldnt see a small car across his bows.
pogweasel Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Yes the driver could be totally blameless. Though it is equally* likely that he was:(a) fast asleep( caning his tits off on amphetamine sulphate© pissing into a bottle(d) watching a DVD(e) wanking over some pr0nPlease note that other sweeping generalisations regarding lorry drivers are available.

trigger Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 I remember a little while ago one of the crane drivers at work knocked a 40ft container of a stack about 4 high which must be 50ft, It landed on the trailer and squashed it, When the lorry driver got out the cab he was covered in tea where he was making a cuppa in the back.

Mr Lobster Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 "By 2015 we would hope to see hundreds of hybrid cars full of local authority recycling consultants being pushed up and down our motorway network by the vast fleet of bio-diesel lorries transporting George Monbiot's weekly medication."
