Ah capt. hindsight ;-)

i had no idea it had the wrong alternator on it haha

tbh it should be up and running on tuesday

battery light fades in and out when running, soooooo that's due to the belt slipping as it's the wrong size, i reckon it's working

The battery light on my cx glowed in the dark with the headlamps, ac and radio on.

this never did until recently

but i reckon with proper belts this should work well

I take your point but would have made sense to change it at the same time. I wasn't aware there was a fairly new one fitted though.

Don't we all! 🤣

It’ll be an abs fault

as far as I know you can’t get the sensors new anymore

i imagine fitting second hand abs sensors will be great fun

Depends. Iirc i found a direct replacement for the brand of sensor that was fitted to early S1s (Bendix?), though it may have the wrong connector and will need the original one transplanting - when i get round to fitting it. My car should have ABS but it's only get 3 sensors and the ABS doesn't even light at switch on, so i suspect it's been disabled by a previous owner.
The later Teves sensors are easier to source new, again iirc

i must admit i kinda want to take this for one of those "health check" things

just want someone to give it a good going over and see what hilarity there is wrong with it

i know for an absolute fact at this moment it will fail an MOT

Ignorance is bliss. Well until it’s too late of course.

i've been using it for my rush hour commute to my new job all this week

no issues*

i think i've got an earth issue on the rear lights, but otherwise it's all fine and still seems to be charging it's battery!

Catching up - I thought they were fancy wheel trims  then decided they were aircon pulleys

May be an image of car and road

well, staggeringly, it's not broken yet!

drove it in a bit of slushy snow today, on summer tyres, goodyear efficient grips on the front and michelin energies on the rear

verdict

shit, not that much grip and had a very exciting moment of going down a hill, hit the brakes and all that happened was the abs kicked in and the car unsettled itself, which was fun!

otherwise it's doing well!

Old school 90s ABS can be frightening at the best of times 😂

It works surprisingly well, it locks up for a little moment and then kicks in

But it’s a bit slidey on these summer tyres, I’ll certainly use the Michelin crossclimate equipped C5 during the worst weather

What a class act this car is. ❤️

I’ve owned it for 8 months now

what a weird 8 months that’s been, took a while to properly love the car and now I’d not be without it
