If you're going to use nearly five year old snaps when selling your car DON'T LEAVE THE DATE ON THE PICTURES.

Item location Liverpool... god that's tempting. :x It'll probably be a stripped out, burnt out shed by now though!

THIS BMW is rather giving me the horn - is this the engine that grenades its liners though?

This troubled car is well known to the Vel Satis community. Once one owner solves one problem it develops another and gets put up for sale again. Anyone brave enough to have a go??? Didn't think so :lol::lol:

I was sat next to a grey 2.2 DCi this morning driven by an auburn haired woman with big sunglasses for a good 5 minutes as she tried to shove her way into my line having barrelled up the chevrons on Brockholes brow.

It looked lovely, but i cant help thinking its a whole new world of pain waiting to happen

So why can't you skim the heads on those engines?

It's been known to change the valve timing and fuck up the car completely. Some have tried it successfully only for it to happen again a few hundred miles later. I haven't heard of a single owner getting past the overheating / head gasket issue, it's always been terminal. These cars a pure heartbreak, but I can't wait to have another. Plus my aunt has got her 3.0 dV6 well over 100k now with no issues. No doubt it'll explode into a ball of fire very soon.

Few things in life beat a woman in a Vel Satis. There's one by me who looks like Shania Twain and uses her V6 Vel Satis as a weapon - to say I find her attractive is a slight understatement

Is the 2.2 ny less prone to grenading itself or is it waiting to eat its own engine oil and lunch itself that way?

Posted

Oh the 2.2 is EVEN WORSE. It's a absolute no go. Turbo and intercooler issues are a dead cert, and after changing these, the car gets confused and rarely sees more than 25 MPG again. EGR valves, throttle bodies, injectors. One of the worst engines ever designed IMHO. I've seen owners spend £2000 and still have a heap of shit. If you want to go Vel Satis, the 3.5 V6 Petrol seems to be completely bullet proof.

Hmmm, a perkins prima would seem to be the way forward then.....

Never having been in that position is it not possible to stand on the brake and stall the engine?

Yep, that's what I did. But there's quite a few autos out there. In that case you just have to stand back and enjoy the show...

No manual cut off on the fuel pump?

I think they are running off the engine oil, not diesel.

I guess there is an accident cut off - just smash in the front end in if it plays up

It's running on its own oil, drawn into the engine through failed oils seals in the turbo.
