Could be anywhere, but looks an awful lot like the A127 heading into Romford.

I'd say A3 Kingston Bypass but neither would be my first choice for a picnic.

Given that it doesn’t look like a heat wave, why wouldn’t you not wait in the caravan and have your food?

IIRC the exact spot was known last time that pic came round

Anyway, got me thinking that Suede wrote a song about it 'picnic by the motorway' ;-)

My guess is the inside of that caravan is even bleaker than a narrow strip of grass on a major bypass.

Either the aftermath of a blag, the TK is full of swag; early dogging adopters (pocket billiards, steamy windows and plenty of room in the back of a Cresta); or they've escaped the wives for a quick fag/pipe during our Doris's wedding.

More room than you think!  That's not a Cresta, it's a 59 Bel Air!

Thanks - extensive leg over space indeed. It was the kink in  the front window frame and general roundness which made me think it was a Cresta.

I can see how the kink would do that; and of course both are GM products, of a period.  The Chevy is obviously built on a bigger scale than the Vauxhall.

People always say the Cresta PA was a (scaled down) copy of the Chevy but it was in fact introduced first.

What it actually was, was a scaled-down 1957 Oldsmobile with sharper fins.  The Olds (also GM) would have been introduced in the autumn of 1956 and you can't tell me the various divisions weren't sharing at least hints.  That 3-piece rear window is a straight lift by Vauxhall!

That's a 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne 4-Door Sedan. The Bisayne had shorter chrome down the side, the Bel-Air and Impalas had chrome that went the full length of the side.
