Yeh, I had a mate who ran over a LandRover with a tank transporter. He was standing on the seat at the time to look out the back window because he thought he had dropped the tank off the  back.

Austin 1956-59 - 28,065 of these A95s and 6,770 of the more powerful A105s were sold. Another BMC turkey really when compared to the Ford/Vauxhall/Rover/Jaguar offerings - selling very many more of their big upmarket cars.

Aspirational advertising probably fooled nobody - posh types off to a plane would have reluctantly travelled in the back one of these dustbins - photo emphasising the fact. I suppose 'Moneypenny' was supposed to be driving the car for the 'Ministry' types.

By comparison Ford sold an absolutely stonking 294,506 Zephyr Mark IIs 1956 -62 (including the Zodiac Mark II) and 6911 Convertibles. Considered a posh car at the time - long before their later 'rockabilly' era.

BMC persisted with their slow selling big six cars but gave up after the Austin 3-litre.
