Yes, odd that. That’s my parents setting off on honeymoon. Mk1 Escort was my aunt’s, my gran stood next to it and Austin was my Grandad’s, that’s my other gran with it.

Yep, he was an Englishman who moved to Ireland for work, as an accountant for Reckitt & Coleman and became MD. That photo with the Austin is at their house, about 100 yards from the factory. Some may remember me posting his notes on a letter from HQ asking him to choose a new company car. The factory and house were demolished to make way for the M50.

He was an Englishman who chose Ireland as him home and was successful in local politics, despite his nationality and became, I think, chairman of Dublin County Council. There are certainly photos of home at functions with celebrities wearing chains of office. There are also articles to prove the Palmer Park estate in Dublin, was named after him.

I remember that bit about his company car, didn't twig it was R&C tho. Still got shares?

Sadly not. Despite all his achievements, he never owned a brick and the beautiful large old coaching house they lived in, with waterfall and lake, was company owned. When he died suddenly, in 1970, when I was 11 months old, my Dad was disgusted to discover his Dad’s salary wasn’t much more than his, as an airfield operator, despite being MD. He took them to task for taking the piss and R&C bought a house for my Grandmother, which she had , rent free until she died in 1982. Grandad was never interested in money but had a great, albeit too short, life.
