Way back in my teens, in 1973, one of our family cars was an Austin A35 van-conversion (windows and seats).  The number plate was SCK 781.

How is it possible to remember such a thing? This is over 50 years ago.

I can barely remember what I had for breakfast.

Older memories are easier in my experience - I can tell you my dad's company cars from the 80's like B851 WKR, E963 WKK, but I can't you his current car! I can remember my primary teachers cars too - yellow MK1 escort estate, Fiat Strada in brown etc.

The first primary teacher I can remember - Mrs Atkinson, 1963 - drove a yellow and white Bedford CA Dormobile.  It was replaced in 68 by a white Hillman Imp Californian, RDM 826F.

It's a very mixed blessing.

Agreed, my mum will say 'do you remember so and so from down the road when you were a kid' and I'll barely be able to picture them, but I might well remember the car they drove!

Come to think of it, I'm the same. Where I spent many childhood years, I don't remember the people, but I remember some of the cars.
