Identify my wheels, please

Hello Shiters.

Bally shame about the meet. This will have to be rearranged. Details to follow.

I fancied me some different wheels for the Amazon. You can now get 5.5" wide steels for the 120s for £350 for 4 from Brookhouse Volvo, but that's a bit rich for me. Bear in mind the Kronprinz \ Lemmerz originals go for about twice that in Germany!

Anyway I found these pieces of shit on eBay after Paul H sent me a link to the auction, and £82 and a confusing trip to Walsall later, they were mine!

They came off a 1967 P1800 the seller had broken, and they have a PCD of 5 x 4.5". Correct offset for a RWD Volvo as well - were they a dealer accessory?

To me they sort of look like a period Astrali crossed with some BRMs - but does anyone know what they actually are? Can't find a makers mark anywhere!

Measure the PCD, if they're 114 (3 1/4), they're off something BL. I swear that's where they're from, but might be wrong.

They look a bit like early Audi 100 alloys...don't know the model number but it's the one Electric Leyland has got....

Nice find Wat. Look a bit like a five stud Dunlop to me.

Just been looking through the mini wheel site that's been posted up on R-R a couple of times recently.

How about these?

Described as "BWA"

Hang on this is also similar. "Exacton"

Those are obviously 10" diameter and designs would have altered a bit to suit a 15"

Agreed!Definately look like older Audi wheels to me.

whilst not identical they are rthe closest thing I have ever seen to my Dunlop D1 style 4 alloys, I'll post a pic later on of them

They look like some Cosmic alloys I saw on a Mini once.I realise that Minis are entirely different to Ovlovs, but could they be Cosmic?

They certainly aren't the usual Cosmic Mk2 design, as seen here conveniently on an Amazon that used to live near me.

I was going to say Gilbern Invader wheels, but some research suggests not.In which case, I don't know why I'm writing this.

I know exactly what they are as I bidded on a set a few months ago, I just can't find the bladdy link!

Posted

They're very similar to a lot of wheels, there were a lot of wheel designers sneakily copying off each other's sketchpads in the 70s.

There's a Cosmic Racing set that's very like them, but has angled/raised holes

I've also seen similar Dunlops, and even Saaf Efrican OEM Beetle wheels are similar... "Sprint Stars"

In fact them sprint stars are mighty similar.... could they be them? If not they're clearly a copy/derivative!

Nnnggg! How did I forget about Pedrinis? My ex's mum's car used to have a set on! :lol:They're the wheel that was instantly devalued when VW South Africa copied the design for their stock steel wheels when moving from 5-stud to 4-stud. They're pretty rare now though, probably because they were worthless in the 70s.

Cheers for the insight guys (turns work mode off). There's some bloody close ones here but nothing that's quite the same. They seem to be a mash up of all of the designs posted so far.The vendor had one cleaned up, so I'll concentrate on that one and see if there's a makers' mark anywhere.

If it's a Pedrini, it will have a maker's mark of FPS on it.

I'll bear that in mind, thanks :D
