For the last couple of months, we've been getting calls on our (ex-d) landline from a company (Grattans) asking for someone who doesn't live here, has never lived here, and if I have anything to do with it, will be dead before the week is out, so will never live here.It started last year, had the first call, said "no, you've got the wrong number", that was it.Just before christmas, early December, the calls re-start.Each time we are assured that our number will be removed from the account etc etc.calls are getting more frequent; had one Monday (Mrs O's birthday...), then last night and now tonight, where I told the Indian Johnny to "go fuck himself" when he refused to put me through to a supervisor.Mrs Outlaw has called the number back, and been told that if we get another call, to ask to be put through to a manager, ask to be removed, etc etc, blah blah. What do I do next? I'm of the opinion that this is harrassment, and I want it to stop. Solicitors next?HELP!!!!

Ask that the matter be escalated immediately. They have to record the calls for monitoring. Failing that, get the number and have it blocked by BT.Grattan outsource their call centers to Vertex, and they're my employer. So I've sent you a PM.

Referee's whistle waiting next to the phone.

I like this idea the best. All call centres and all people employed by call centres are scum*.

HA HA.:twisted:srsly though, it's gotta be no kind of life phoning folk up. I would hate it, but I hate phones generally. Then again you would probably think that my cold, rainy, trudging about job is WELL BOBBINS.

Pog:1. My job is UTTER shit, but it's better than no job. And besides, I'm not going to be doing it forever anyway, my OMG NEW PLANZ have seen to that.2. I like trudging around in fields, I worked for the Environment Agency for 6 months as a temp and I used go out in the vans when they were logging culverts. We used to listen to Pere Ubu and swear at ducks. It was FOOKING GREAT and several of them put the word forward to the boss that they wanted me on a permanent contract. Then there were several cut backs and I was UNEMPLOYED once more. Aaargh.

I want a job swearing at ducks :(I get to swear at lots of people, but ducks would be more fun. I used to work in a call centre but it was inbound, not outbound, so people used to swear at me. Great fun. Wind them up and then hang up on them when they finally flip and call you a "Jumped up little motherfu"I apologise for anyone who ever phoned up for help with a Packard Bell PC. Especially if it was at night, we were most bored then and would play mind games with you.

If you tell them that you're registered under the Telephone Preference Scheme or whatever the service is called (it's late and the Guinness is working) and that every call they make is being logged and reported to OFCOM they'll piss off because their company is liable to prosecution for a breach of regulations. Ask them how they got your number, then tell them to wait a minute as there's somebody at the door and leave your phone off the hook.

This sounds like some sort of dream job for me. not the rest of it, just this part. David Thomas is a right twat though.

The telephone preference thing won't work unfortunately, because this Mrs Crow who they ask for all the time has given our number as hers at some point.I can't convince them that neither me or the wife are her....

Pretend to be her, then say you're moving house today and give them a new number. The number of the local borough council should do it :D

Tell them to put whatever it is they want to talk about in writing, and that you don't want them to call you again, and that you will treat it as harrasment if they do. I'd also suggest firing off a quick letter to Grattans head office to the same effect - send it to their customer services department and a copy to their MD / CEO.I would also check your credit file in case somebody has registered something at your address - Grattans is a credit catalogue company so the last thing you want is debts that are not yours on your file.

Another call at 9.05am this morning, Mrs Outlaw had same conversation again, assured wouldn't happen again etc etc....she told matey that we will be taking it further.Enquired through work, found house number for Mrs Crow, turns out she moved out 09/08 anyway, no forwarding address left...but my company have a mobile on file. So you can guess what I'm going to do when I leave the pub tonight.....

Another call made to us 2.45pm, while me and SWMBO out....

We get this too, people asking for Mr or Mrs Armstrong. We reckon they have a similar phone number, and give it out with a digit or two changed to get the harrassers off their back.I just play with them, making stupid noises/voices down the phone, or shoutiing loudly, or pretending to be crazy.

Ive got my phone number unlisted so no deathly cold callers can interrupt the warmth of my privacy..i also hate phones and dont have a mobile...and heres a photo I took of Pere Ubu in Edinburgh 1989..they gave me a dozen cans of Grolsch to take home with me..
