Thanks and, yes, was always worried by a Senator in the rear view mirror back in the day. Looking quite likely that I’ll do this but will need some prep first.

It's a shame the same can't be said of the current range , we didn't bring any onto the fleet last year , still got Grandlands and Crossland off the road for engines and gearboxes , the amount of times I've seen " Low oil pressure " on a Vauxhall dashs in the last few years

Indeed, I think the Mk 3 Cavalier, Carlton and Senator were Vauxhalls at their peak. All down hill since unfortunately, although @AnnoyingPentium’s Vectra should probably be allowed into this club too but only just🙂 as the Mondeo was better.

Aye I'd agree with that statement. The Mondeo was more appealing inside, but the Vectra had those mirrors, and does the "an car" thing quite well for me.

And it will for a long time to come. I had a brand new Mondeo Mk3 at the time and was given a new Vectra as a loan car when the Mondeo went in for accident repair (not my doing!), so could compare them directly. I have to admit, the Vectra felt more “solid” and better built but the Mondeo was a far better drive. I was disappointed, as I had the Senator even then and had hoped for better from the Vectra. Still, great to see yours still going strong!

Brilliant, thanks! I’ve just run the plan past Mrs W and she’s ok with it. So operation Senator back to Scotland begins!

Have this evening moved the illegally parked Bini to safety, I hope. Battery on charge all weekend and 10 litres of fresh fuel. Even getting the battery in and out is a pain in the arse on these ffs!

To be fair though, after what must be 18 months at least, it did start first push of the button. Didn’t want to move though, much smoke from the clutch due to stuck brakes.

Plans for the Senny going to Scotland are now on hold. Sorry folks, I was really looking forward to it. A combination of my physical problems at the moment and family demands.

Siblings have requested I bring a carpet machine to clean the dining room and one wants cabinets transported to her flat, which means I need the Skoda estate. I haven’t checked if she’s within Glasgow’s LEZ because if she is, I won’t be doing it.

Our finance manager rang me today and is going to speak with the MD, as it’s ridiculous that my car is 9 years old , yet he’s just spent £20k on a Transit Connect Auto to replace the leased pool car. Hopefully mine will be replaced soon and I can take stuff to my sister’s without the LEZ worries, which are frankly ridiculous for Glasgow.

Glasgow Morrisons rent machines, shirley?

The LEZ zone covers stuff on the RHS of the M8 (East), at least north of the river (ish).

Aye - but look at the green flag waving (no pun intended) that the City Corporation can now do (ignoring the six lanes of pollutants overhead).
Just back from there (stayed over at the Hydro with our air quality poisoning, diseasel banger) and we were bemused by the fact that everything is getting pushed down over onto the South bank - even our mini cab went over there to cut up to the Green rather than skim straight through town.

They don’t compare to a professional machine and take longer because you have to keep refilling. It’s fine, I’ll take the Senny another time.

I’ve just put the Cortina battery on charge as, despite being disconnected since October, is dead. Not surprised as it’s a shitty Lion brand.

Anyway, this is a clearer photo of the paint issues I have. Again, on a panel repainted by the PO, bonnet this time.

I can’t afford to have the whole car repainted so will attempt localised repairs soon and see how that pans out.

That’s exactly how my Capri bonnet went when it was bronze. It was fine to begin with then year on year it got progressively worse. On mine you could pop the blisters with your finger nail and there’d be water underneath, almost trapped between the paint and primer layer.
Of course when you did that it left you with loads of primer colour freckles all over the panel!

Yep, that’s what I’m getting and wish the PO had a moisture trap in his airline. Just got to deal with it now. Shame, as it looked so good before this started happening 🙁

I don’t think there’s a proper fix for it unfortunately other than flatting it all right back and repainting.
If you can get a good colour match touch up paint you could probably just scratch the worst of them off and dab the paint on like a stone chip repair.
If it’s only affecting one panel the other option might be to just get that one panel flatted and sprayed.

Its money and the aggravation doing it though.

I wonder if giving the car a damn good polish and wax might help slow it down? Try to seal the paint up a bit more.

I know, it’s a big problem and it’s coming from beneath the paint, so don’t think I can slow it down by polishing. I’ll have a dabble with it and see what happens. This won’t be soon, as I have a couple of Scotland trips to do, one for sorting the house and one for work. A week between. At least I’m flying for the work trip.

Just think of it as you’re not going to make anything worse by skimming a few of the blisters off and dabbing a bit of paint on. They just look like stone chip repairs afterwards.
It’s a real bugger it’s done it though.

Thanks Dan, I’ll post it on here, just wish it was on smaller panels.

Evening folks, we’re back in Renfrewshire, the journey up took 9.5 hours. Not complaining, we’re ok but I fear others aren’t. Just passed junction 15 of M6 when I hear the traffic news announce it was closed ahead in both directions. Just managed to get off at Keele services before the traffic built back up and beyond. Passing the scene later was sobering. One car unrecognisable, hope they’re ok.

Made a start clearing out my parents garage today and got first load to tip:

Some things I do wonder what I’m going to do with. Thought Dad had sold this years ago:

Anyone need an outboard motor? If there are any local shiters who need a wheelbarrow, or hedge trimmer, or extending ladder, please give me shout sharpish!

These are still available if anyone’s interested. Open to offers for the outboard, other bits can go free. I’m heading back up to Mum & Dad’s on Thursday and coming back Monday. Hoping to get things sorted enough to be able to get the house on the market soon.

I might list the motor on the for sale thread and could bring it back south if anyone’s interested. Are you still interested @Saabnut? No worries if not.

Thanks for the offer but I have not had the time free I expected so will pass on the outboard for now. No point it sitting in my shed gathering dust if someone can get some use out of it

I think I’m ready to head north tomorrow. Carpet machine, tools and chemicals all loaded, love the size of the boot on this:

I’ve been strangely ok with why I’m going, until now. Suddenly found myself welling up and throat tightening. Fuck sake, will remain strong and I’ll be ok in a bit I’m sure. Be glad when it’s all sorted.

Anyway, as always, give us a toot and a wave if you see me🙂

Dropped number one son at work at 8.30 and headed up. Arrived at 4.30 and now having a beer. I fucking hate that journey.

Good grief, there is so much stuff to sort here. Found some bits in the loft that made me smile though:

Seems complete apart from the power supply. Takes batteries too though.

I’m sure these were got with BP fuel tokens:
