Are there any plans for a summer Autoshite national meet?

Naked video was indeed ace, but so was Absolutely. Trouble with Absolutely is that unless you were aware of it the first time round it's assumed that you mean Absolutely Fabulous. When you then try to explain that it pre-dates "Ab Fab" by 3 years and was a sketch show you are met with blank looks that soon changes to a conversation about how funny "Ab Fab" was(n't).

Didn't Naked Video also have Gregor Fisher (aka Rab C Nesbitt) in it? Seem to recall he did the baldy bloke with the comb-over and The Outer Hebrides Broadcasting Corporation?*Anyone remember Shadwell talking about his girlfriend's Welsh motorbike? 'It was a Rhondda 500 it was' Right, erm, back o/t:Have we decided a place yet? The RR meet could be good but should we not meet as a seperate 'unit' at a seperate place?

Banner's in the boot of the Audi, saw it recently.

Excellent - was wondering where that had got to.

It was indeed the first place we saw Rab.

"O-H-B-C News" "Hallo, hallo, hallo, this is The Outer Hebrides Broadcasting Corporation calling...civilisation!"

I'd like to suggest a meeting point that allows those of those within mainland Britain to leave at 3 o'clock in the afternoon and get home before midnight under standard traffic conditions. I used to visit an event near Banbury that had people from all over the UK arrive at, and there was a bunch that came down from Ellon who had to leave at 9 in the morning.

Haynes as in the Motor museum?

I think thats where he means. Might be a spot far for you mind...

Haynes is dahhhhn sahhhhf. I don't do dahhhhn sahhhhf. The Midlands would be the most sensible place.(Yep, even if I have to drive from Czech to the meet, I'd still rather it's in the Civilised North than anywhere south of Birmingham)

Right, I'm going to promote my region as a place for an Autoshite meet.

Wonderful Wakefield!

Delightful Dewsbury!

Charming Castleford!

Easy access from the M1/M62. Hot attractions! Big hills! Pylons! Gasometers! Chimneys! Tripe! Cowheel! Flat caps! Whippets! etc.

Hirst has me thinking now: how about meeting on some rough as bollocks council estate to keep with the shite theme? :D Midlands probably fairer for most, though I'd guess our chums from Scotalnd, Norfolk and Devon etc will have one hell of a journey on their hands.

why dont we all just chip in to buy the local swimming baths literally opposite my house that has closed,That way we can store all of our cars and atleast 100 more in there in safety AND have a actual Autoshite venue :) !

Forgive me for saying this....BUT in what way is Yeovil central to Autoshite Members uk wide?? this is the problem I find with almost all forum events, its purely based on those in the South and their seeming reluctance to travel North...Guys, 3 hours North is the same time as 3 hours South West...excepting you may get further if you go North in that amount of time...

He's right, y'know. It's that famous Southern "It's scary up North" thing. I think that Southerners think that up in the Civilised Norf the motorways are as bad as the ones they're used to.With the exception of the evil M60 (and all it contains) it's ace up here. You Suvverners should visit us. We no longer wear clogs, and even though the Industrial Revolution started up here, we're a lot more laid back now.

I reckon we should have it at a Little Chef car park. Not actually going in, costs a sodding fortune.

Some commercials are not allowed at the Little Shit, so I boycott them....

True. I only suggested Haynes as there are probably going to be quite a few AS members there already. That said, Haynes is still 4.5 hours for me so....Theres plenty of stuff 'ooop North' though. What about Bubble Car Museum in Lincolnshire, Leyland Commercial Vehicle Museum in, erm Leyland or a bit further south - Gaydon.Failing that, we could really do with an Ace Cafe type of place up here. There was a place near Bradford, even called itself 'Ace', had a big car park and held a few evening Mini meets last summer. Every time I've passed recently though it looks closed.

Is Bradford safe these days??

Note that I said 'near' Bradford. Not yer actual Bradford. Actually, the fake northern Ace Cafe is / was in Saltaire which is quite nice. Well, sort of ok for a wander around and has a nice cake shop anyway.

We're only a little island in the grand scheme of things. It wouldn't bother me where a meet took place - the further away, the bigger the adventure. I once drove from Norfolk to Reston in the Scottish Borders to buy a clip and a cruise control vacuum pump. Great excuse to visit Newcastle-u-T again after nearly 20 years, and also enjoy the experience of screwing up the A1/M1 junction again and careering off to Leeds again by accident. There are still some £9 and £19 Travelodge rooms bookable just about everywhere for the Spring and Summer months.

Sorry missed the disclaimer.......I have "memories" of working in Bradford circa 1991

+1 for either shuttleworth or stondon. Then I have the minimum distance to walk to/from the event when the car inevitably breaks down. In fact I could probably get to shuttleworth even if I did break down, a combination of push & coasting should still take less than half an hour.

Posted

In that case I vote for the Truckstop at Carlisle....45 mins for me and next to the M6 motorway, easy for all the far flung travelers to find :D

Posted

i kind of dont care how far it is aslong as i can get there No doubt i still wont be driving by then so its either go crazy with the BMX and turn up like a bit swetty bar-steward, Public transport, convince dad to take me, or hitch hike ! :)

Posted

I don't really mind either tbh. I'm quite happy wherever. I like a bit of an adventure.
