have been on a train from Edinburgh to London this am.Edinburgh, Lothian, Borders, Northumbria, Co Durham, N & S Yorks very very nasty especially N & S Yorks - like Dr friggin Zchivago out there. Haven't seen anything like it in Britain in my memory. Every main road I could see form the train was slow/blocked. The bit between Durham and Donny is especially nasty - clears up a bit around Newark but still snowy.

Not too bad here in Leicester.

I was watching on teh newz last night that loads of councils etc have spunked all their salty goodness over the roads in the last bout of 'TRAVEL CHAOS" and have none left for dealing with any more. GMTV are gonna have a field day.

Surprisingly bad here this morning.Left home at 6.30, gor stuck in traffic on M6 at 7.10. Took further one and half hours to get the next four miles to Charnock Richard services where I turned around and came home. Still snowing pretty heavily. Think I might be booking tomorrow as a day off.

Poofs. 6am I was in Lower Darwen, 7am back at Preston- quick brew up and then off to work, 7.30 am at work. Pah - I fart in your general direction snowflakes. Me and the iccle Micra can handle whatever you throw at us.Even now staff are being sent home. Not me - that way lies the wife and kids... Im stopping here.Later I intend to take the 11 year old for a spot of handbraketurnery on the local mill car park.

Its pretty bad here in Leeds. I live on a hill and there were vehicles sliding aboout all over the place going up and down this morning. Took me 3 attempts to get up the drive. Apparently there is more coming this afternoon. Fan-dabbie-dozie. Its getting on my nerves a bit now. Re: GMTV. I saw an interview with some dozy bint in Edinburgh this morning who had stacked her car into a bollard and was blaming the council for not gritting her road. 'The main roads are okay, but what about my road, look whats happened i am going to have words with my counciller'. I know how she feels, i slipped getting out of my shower as the council had not put a rubber bath mat down. It has to be said people do need to take responsibility for their own actions every now and then (he writes hoping he does not stack his car on the way home). Cant blame everyone else.

I am currently in East Leeds (Colton) at the mo. All was fine when I left home this morning until I got off the 62 at Ferrybridge. By the time I got off the A1M onto the A64 it was a mess. Took me an hour to get there. It is still coming down, so I shall be leaving soon as I want to try and get home within daylight hours........

I just phoned the police to see what the roads were like, as my workplace is deep within businesspark territory. They advised me, and I quote, "Not to bother going" and "it's all a bloody nightmare".So I phoned work to be told that if I don't show my face, no money. Not even if I brave it and spend four hours in a snowdrift.

tis cold here, had snow the day before yesterday waiting for it to thaw out

It is meant to start snowing down here in Suffolk tonight and getting very heavy through Wednesday according to the news, which is a right ass as I'm working tonight. So if you hear a news report in the morning about the artic recovery team being sent to the port of Felixstowe to save 100's of men, think of me. :(

to be fair she does have a point - probably put in GMTV's moronic simplicity. Edinburgh City Council have spunked 500 million quid on a tram system no one wants and we do not need - it has eaten into the schools and road budgets in particular. The snow we had on the 20th is still on the ground but now compacted into a six inch slab of frozen ice with more snow on top. The pavements are lethal. The council have basically taken the decision not to clear any but the main roads but the pavements are disgraceful. The fracture clinics are full and I know at least 2 mates who have broken limbs on the pavements - Edinburgh has many hills and some of these you take you life in your hands wling down let alone driving down at the moment. The gripe is that Edinburgh does have gritting bins on street corners - only they haven't been maintained in years so there are only about 20% of what was there when I was a nipper - those bins were emptied the weekend before Christmas and have not been replaced. No rubbish has been collected since the 14th - because the local roads are iced up - her anger is understandable - but GMTV needed to put it in the context of an incompetant city council

and another thing - the lazy pr!cks in Edinburgh City Council have only went back to work today - been off since the 24th which is why she is angry - the city has been in chaos - but oh no! they must have their time off at Christmas - not like their public servants or anything!clucking funts!

Arse! Work have cancelled saying it is too risky to take the wagons out! Have the never seen Ice Road Truckers? Bunch of pansies!

Surely the men on the ground were working through Christmas and New Year? They were up here anyway.Maybe it is best that everyone stays at home when there's snow and ice about, 99% of the public seems to need/want nannying in every aspect of their lives. They can't be trusted to move.

Completely crazy here in Sheffield- my other half got half way to work, then got a txt saying not to bother coming in as nobody would be able to get there, so she turned round and actually made it back, despite Sheffield being a hilly city!! Living here about 20 years ago and driving a Moggy 1000 has given her amazing snow driving abilities!! I made it to work before the snow started, but set off back early, after it had fallen, and a 15 min journey took about an hour. Some pics:

The problem is the suppot they get from back office enabling them to do their jobs - like signing off overtime - was on holiday.up your way the council is much better. Highlands council is a paragon of how to cope in nasty weather

Blimey 55B! That's only an hour from here and we've just had a few watery flakes. I'm hoping (for purely selfish reasons) that it clears before Saturday - I'm off to collect a guitar on Eccleshall Road.

I'm at home today (Harrogate) because I cannot even move the car. I'm parked on an incline.I guess some people think that people who aren't driving to work are a bunch of pansies but the local roads are totally unsuitable to be driven on by normal cars. 4 x 4's seem to be doing fine but of the cars I've seen driving about, many have got stuck and others have been jumping red lights coz they cannot stop. People should only get in their cars and set off if they are sure they can drive in a safe manner and are very sure they will not get stuck.

As Scooter says there is more to the situation in Edinburgh than most folk realise.......CortinaDave was down here on Sunday and said our roads are much better than in Edinburgh and Fife....whilst its a shit hole area, we expect crap weather as we are totally rural and seem able to clear the roads....but they do the main roads first...we have had no major snow for about 2 days now but we are at -7c during the day so very, very icy.I know some disagree but modern cars just arn't suited to snow conditions and most folk in the south barely drive in propper snow during their lives, which just makes it all worse..............if you cant/dont know how to drive in snow....then just stay at home in safety, and any company that wont pay you something should be shut down in my opinion, the lads that worked for me got full pay if they were unable to get to work due to weather, it was only fair

I've just got back from Leeds and it's much the same here as there, so could be coming your way Andy.......

Looks just like winter...

:D Exactly. I am pretty confident I could drive a 2wd car with summer tyres through all that without incident.

Aye, it would almost be a pleasure in that....but as always its other people that are the problem..

That's it I suppose, it just takes one idiot to spoil your day.

Not one single flake here , just a bit of ice that soon melted when it rained this afternoon.
