Thanks for the offerz of help guys, but...HA HA FUCK YOU MALWARE BASTARDS! I BEAT IT.It had got this fake anti-virus thing that was resisting all known attampts to get around it and blocking all .exe files. So I tried to use Trend Micro HijackThis, but obviously couldn't use it as it was .exe. Thinks.... if it is still running IE & FF, how about if I rename HijackThis as "explorer.exe". NO, it's wise to that. Fucksticks. But then if they are expecting ie using numpties.... ...so I renamed it opera.exe, and it allowed HijackThis to run, fucked off the spyware that was blocking all the .exe's. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I WIN.

My computer had that fake anti virus thing, I thought I'd killed it off but I think it's what killed the XP install.Still, it was a good excuse to change to Ubuntu.

Bump for this.... I'm a cretin I know, but this time, it's not my fault.A while ago, my PC got a virus thingy, and had to be taken away and cleaned.I now no longer have Excel on here, and ideally I'd like to put the Grumpy Charts onto a document, so I don't have to rely on my own brains to "sort" them. The next update will be 500 pages, and I'm gonna do a top 50 chart at the very least, so this would be preferable to the mountains of paper that I've used so far.I'm thinking column one as "position", 2 as "name" 3 as "posts" and 4 a big column so i can use it to do "5 bar gates" when I'm going through the last 50 pages. Then I can just re-input the latest scores, press sort on coloum 3 and jobs a good'un. A) Is excel the best thing for this?B) Anyone got any ideas on how to get it without weighing out ££££C) Anyone got any better ideas?Cheers.

I seem to have this exact thing at the moment... does anybody know a way to get rid of it if I don't already have /hijackThis (or know what it is...)? It's not letting me run any .exe files so my whole computer's broken.

It works, but why contribute to Bill Gates' retirement fund by using Micro$oft products when Open Office contains everything that M$$$$$ Office does but is free and gives you regular, free updates?

It comes bundled with Most Linux distros, but you can download and use it with Windoze too, link HERE. Enjoy.

Is it the fake windows security one (XP Defender Pro)?? If so, I fixed it a couple of weeks back by following these instructions:http://www.myantispyware.com/2010/03/17 ... ent-331756

Another vote for OpenOffice over shelling out for Microsoft's version.

Oh cock. I just made a really stupid mistake! I'm running on an external (USB) hard drive cos my internal drive on the eeePC is dead. Right in the middle of browsing and downloading (and halfway through replying with LoLs at all your windows malware problems) I pulled out the wrong cable  and unplugged the HD. Instant black screen.... bugger... shutdown/restart... Oh no! error message ahoy :(

Firefox can't restore my tabs? Stupid useless system!

PS, it took about 3 mins to get back up on the net, no errors showing on the drive, everything else including the download continued fine ;D

I did an equally daft thing last week - I sat my laptop on a swivelling office chair so I could connect it to an external drive on a desk. Halfway through writing the files I lean on the chair, it swivels and unplugs the drive  No damage fortunately.

On the subject of naughty computers my (free) spare pc has a problem where whenever you open a web browser (any of them) it almost always has to shut down at once. I have even reinstalled XP and it still happens. Any ideas why? Much karma to anyone who can help on this!
