By the way, for @LightBulbFuns reference, the reason the doovla rejected hairnets original application is they don't think the NZ document is an "original" as its a printed out copy from an online system.

I believe that is how their system works so I'll be going down the dating certificate route.

ahhh not surprised! @dollywobbler had the exact same issue with his Ford Falcon AU, a dating letter as you say should sort that :) what I am currently wondering is why the recently done MOT is not showing up on its DVSA vehicle record, I figured it should be showing by now? tho as long as the phyiscal MOT certificate you have at least has a matching VIN/Frame number, I dont think the DVLA should get too tetchy about it

looking forward to this one finally getting its British logbook at long last :)

The MOT place I used just did it on the VIN, they didn't put 60UKK.

No the guy seemed fairly unbothered TBH, he loves the sound of his own voice and I never get away without at least 20mins of him going on about something or other.

This time it was tangentially related because he has a Spanish reg laverda in the workshop which someone had previously tried to register but the number on the Spanish logbook isn't the actual VIN or something so doovla didn't like it.

I told him what to do (ditch logbook and send dating cert only) but this led to a long story about how actually the customer who owned it died two years ago and he was going to ring the wife about it but never got round to it because when is the right time and the guy who died had about 15 bikes and maybe he'll drive up one day as it seems more polite in person

You get the idea

I think they will classify it as an S plate based on 1/1/1999. Will report back in 4-6 weeks

Oh interesting!, blessing in disguise that they rejected the NZ Logbook then? means you (or whoever its with in 2039!) get historic vehicle tax a little bit earlier :)

Yeah it doesn't make much difference to me, presumably they date it based on the year it came off the production line in Japan and it took 2 years to make it's way to Rangiora and get registered for the first time.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the NZ post office was only able to buy stockpiled ones from Australia in later years so it's not a surprise to find it sat round for a while.

Shouldn't really be needed but I thought with the previous rejection and mismatch between NZ and Honda it was worth adding. Definitely don't forget to send a copy of your licence, that's tucked away in the guidance notes but they will reject it without ID.

Yes I sent them the world, had a call with them then sent the bundle expecting sense.

Nope no old v5 m8.

Onto IFA club and they have dragged their arse for months. May have to investigate the creative writing option.

FYI @LightBulbFun it's not noted as non-transferrable, and the DVLA checker is not showing it as MOT'd, it seems to have picked up the record for 60UKK as it shows as running out in 2022 but the new one I had done on the VIN isn't showing.

Now need to try and figure out what to do for a number plate - the NZ plates are 10" x 3", any wider would obscure the indicators and any taller will cover up the reflector.

Might just start with a legal 9x7 and stick a reflector to it.

I'm just amazed that there can be almost 30 years difference between this bike and mine!!

woop woop! at long last :) glad to see its got a british logbook, when I heard rumblings a while back it might of been for sale I was seriously tempted to buy it myself just to take care of the DVLA stuff  I note EP is Swansea, is that location related to your or not?

so far It seems like sadly the DVLA dont issue location related, age related plates anymore which I think is a bit shit, i'd like them to do it properly, I have always wondered if you could explictly request that the age related plate, be issued to the location where the vehicle is being registered

yeah checks out on the number plate front, as per the other thread, thats why I think the whole thing with personal-plate-from-new and then being issued an age related mark on a non-transferable basis, may well be a fuckup on the DVLA part, as you can see normal age related plates (that are not pre 1963) are still transferable

thats a bit of an arse with the MOT record! that is why I asked about it, sadly things like this are all too common and ya have to be on your toes to avoid causing the system to throw a wobbly, wonder if you can talk to a friendly MOT man to get it sorted, just tack on a fresh MOT onto the existing record?

(or I guess you could just put it in for another MOT, and have a vehicle with 2 valid MOT's LOL)

thanks for keeping me in the loop in the process its been quite interesting :)

get a really short number for it? POS71E? :) (it sold at DVLA Auction in June 2008 for £900 but it does not look to have ever been assigned to a vehicle curiously, wonder if its floating around on one of the 3rd party plate sale sites?)

As I understand it non-standard size plates are permissible on imports if there is no space provided for a U.K.-sized plate.

A Mitsubishi GTO I used to own had to have a very small front plate to fit the aperture (may have been a 9x3) and I used to keep a copy of the rules in the glovebox thanks to occasional attention from plod over it.

No, I'm in West Yorkshire. My Vespa got JWR which I believe is a Leeds plate but I guess they just have a block on the go for a given year and just give them out regardless.

I think the problem is the character size, I don't think you can make a 10 x 3 plate with 7 digits that has legal character size.

If the plate is smaller the font will be adjusted to fit

It wont make a difference i bought a 7x7 from fancy plates

For the nc and never had trouble

So putting a fit plate will work cos import and plod shouldn't care

See beetles and yanks with usa size plate

I think it does have to meet the font size to be legal, jap/US imports and motorbikes use the same font size. I think a 7 digit reg squeezed onto a 10x3 or 9x3 plate would be well under and risk some hassle.

Gone for the standard dinner plate with a stick on reflector to start with.

The leading-link suspension forks are the only thing I don’t like about C90’s so I can imagine one of these would be gr8 m8.

Well done for pushing on in the face of all the bureaucratic adversity
