Great thread! How about a Mk1 (>99ish) Renault Laguna 3.0 V6? Didn't look anything special but had 200bhp and went pretty damn quick.Rover 620Ti a good idea - drove one years ago and was massively surprised.

What, officially, does the Q stand for? It's a phrase that's been around since at least the 50s in reference to police cars (think of an unmarked Wolseley 6/90).I've always assumed it was Quiet but not too sure.

Obviously i must say a Renault 25 V6 Turbo200BHP in a VERY old mans looking car...I also own a V6 24V laguna(1998)and that is another quick car,but it looks the part with BABY ON BOARD and Longleat stickers in the window, but again 200BHP and this flys...

It comes from the Q ships of the 1st and 2nd world wars. They were merchant ships running lightweight bouyant cargo, such as balsa wood pallets, with concealed heavy weaponary and bigger engines. They were sent to areas where U boats had been sighted and operated alone to lure subs to the surface(saving on torpedos). When the u-boat surfaced, the unguarded merchant vessel suddenly became a fire spitting monster. The balsa wood cargos were intended to keep them afloat in the event of taking a hit.The q comes from their home port of Queenstown in Ireland.

Well I would never have guessed that! Cheers :D

Early model Sierra 1.6 "Laser" in Dark Blue with the 2.8 litre Cologne V6 from an XR4 fitted. "Yeah, leave the rear drums and the 155's, it'll be fine"Failing that an old piece of large J-Tin. Honda Legends had some pretty awesome engines and I bet they go like stink whilst looking like a standard family saloon. Always fancied something like a Legend or Camry, totally anonymous OMG GR8 4 BANK JOBS

lancia thema 16 valve turbo's best couple of hundered quid (at the time) i could spend.

you do get used to wheelspin on the motorway eventually!

and i suppose my tipo could be a sleeper with 148 bhp and being a 'more' door.

but halfway to 230 bhp!

The Rover 420 GSi Turbo is a good call, The one i drove went like a rocket, I though it was just a normal 400 when i collected it from the garage until i put my foot down!, Much faster than a 820 Turbo.

But for me this is the Ultimate Q car.

How to scare yourself and your dog half to death, and make a mess of the shopping as well.

In terms of cost \ annoyance ratio my Piazza was a proper Q car.Had a little, erm 'race' down some back roads I know very well with a gentleman from work who was adamant my 'shit POS car' wouldn't stick with his brand new Fiesta ST.Strange really, because I'm certain he couldn't get rid of me, there was smoke coming off his front tyres and everything. A sure sign of skill and a fine motor car.I meanwhile taped my window up (for the purpose of lowering air resistance) and put some Radio 2 through the 3 of my 4 speakers that were working.

I've always liked the idea of putting an Mi 16 engine into a 405 estate and keeping it stock, even down the wheels and tyres. The R888s would be a bit of a giveaway, but you'd have to be up close.

Eh?

Forgive my ignorance if there's something else R888 and not made by Toyo..

Astra Mk3 SRi models are pretty rapid for what they are.

I can't believe it, someone else who appreciates mk3 SRIs! My father had one of these in the mid 90s. 2 litre SRI 8 valve engine, 3 Dr (for added shiteness it had wheel covers). Reg was K53YVS. Not sure what happened to it. Autocar achieved an 8.5 second 0-60mph figure which is outstanding for the power output which was 115bhp if I recall. These Vauxhall 2 litre engines had great torque I remember and picked up from low revs so easily.
Magic cars. Apparantly they had a unique engine in that they used the less powerful (118bhp?) two litre eight valve with slightly different internals and being early models they don't have cats.Another Q car worth mentioning is the 2WD Cav Gsi 'red top'.Huge amount of fun and the poke out of them is surprisingly nice, good enough to scre the bejesus out out of far 'fancier' cars and there's nowt like pissing off some snob in his flash car as you sail past in some old Cav with rusty steel wheels :D

Pedant. I meant tyre size, ie OEM width and aspect, on factory alloys, but with R888 boots.

Shame about the pointless Barry/MG Rover 2004-era number plate repositioning

That is a spectacularly awesome machine nonetheless. Whats the dash out of?

Be better fitted with "CL" badges, slim bumpers and painted in polish-me-now Tornado Pink...

I reckon my Chevy has potential. Looks like a POS, but will keep up with most stuff on the motorways. 133bhp and 1200kg helps. I'm going to remove the cat, all the smog gear and give it a good service. It should then be capable of scaring me as well as 7 potential passengers!

ahh i like your thinking, ytes return it to pov C spec, along with the rear plate back on the boot lol....think the dash is 911 isnt it??

Pedant yes but it's how it read to me. MI16's came with 195/55/15s so it would work I reckon.

Here's a top Aussie stealth Datsun 1200 from a few years back. Stock looking as possible even down to a dummy peashooter exhaust...

Couldn't agree more. Been looking for a suitable 620Ti for my brother.

Not really a sleeper - but a mad variation on the big-engine-in-a-small-car theme

The Rover 600ti is a fairly innocuous looking car for something that needs an enthusiastically driven Impreza to get in front.

200bhp does make for some interesting torque steer moments though' as you hang on for dear life!

Mine doesn't even have a 'ti' badge on the boot, just says 'Rover 600'...could just as well be a Diseasel!
