106 garage ornament

Bought this last year. Transpires it competed in the 1995 and 1996 French Rally Championship, winning the 1996 Championship with French man Michel Boetti driving. British driver David Blades used the car to great effect over a few years with many class wins. Still in its original shell too. Last pic with red white and blue is the car now.

Wow! I had an S1 Rallye about 12 years ago and drove it everywhere absolutely flat out. Fantastic cars!

Has it still got the 1300 engine with the huge alloy inlet manifold?

They were stupidly cheap when they were new in about ‘94 those, think they were about the £9k mark, when you think how collectible they are now they’d sold themselves short a bit on the price back then given it was cheaper than an Escort 1.3 Base.

I bet that's quite fun. The S1 106 has aged really well.

The only one I've been in was a 1.4? early diesel, so a little bit different to yours.

I love the squares pattern in the first picture

That's lovely, I owned a S1 XSi with a GTi lump in for around 10 years or so, really fun cars. I regretted selling it so much I replaced it with a 200 quid Saxo VTR which is now a garage ornament, mainly because its broken and rusty.

Shudder!

I loved the stripped down rallye concept that they did with the 205, 106 and 306, much better than adding loads of kit for added weight and expense. Lovely looking car that.

I always wished my 306 was a Rallye rather than a GTi. The air-conditioning never bloody worked anyway so it might as well have been.

It's been at 2 shows, where a good mate of mine likes to sabotage it... I don't mind as it actually keeps its identity private.

About the only time a road car justifies having bonnet pins.

But it's not a road car...
