Jaguar XJR

So should I go and take a look at this? Plenty of test, seller says no issues?

When something is too cheap is it for a reason? Or do these crop up at this money? I looked at them years ago when they were about £4/£5K

had one, it was fantastic, and needy, so very very needy.....

it was the neediest thing i've ever owned.

traction control was the problem with ours. which is now NLA from Jaguar.

i think its a problem when they are stood a lot.

and look for rust too, face it, its a steel car made in the west midlands!

wings, sills and wheel arches are the worst bits. and X300 body panels are really only available second hand, though XJ40 repair panels can be adapted to fit.

i miss mine, i should have kept it really, but i got fed up of spending on it. according to the DVLC its been off the road now for several years, so i guess the guy who bought it has either blown it up, or crashed it.......

Being that the mileage is 171k km (or is this just an issue with the app that you are using it displays like this) could it be a jap import? In which case will be solid....??

Faceache always put the mileage as kms.
They always list them as auto too for some reason.

Yes! High miles cars can sometimes be good if they have had regular maintenance or even company ownership. I think the wheels are later - the leaper might be a good sign indicating 'enthusiasts'. Go have a look (socially distanced).

My own view is given the Covid fallout a lot of 'non useful' or second  cars are going to come to market.

If it’s round the corner, go and see it. We’ve all got a lot more time in our hands at the moment .

you could probably get most of your money back by breaking it for parts if it went wrong further down the line.

This is what I thought. It’s not too far. Seller is currently unresponsive

“Parachutes in through the roof”

£1000 is cheap for a running one of these now but they  remain a bit of an under-appreciated car for some reason. I bought one for £750 the other year and managed to make it presentable(ish) and run well again, but even then it was not worth that much. A decent one will be closer to £3k, not the £4-5k some people think. My current XJR was less than £2k, which still amazes me. The one that is really special is the XJR manual. Prices are from £5k up usually for those now, but extremely rare. You won’t find one of those.

Naturally I keep a constant eye on any XJR6s for sale as it’s my favourite model of the “modern“ Jag era.

The car posted here has been for sale a couple of times recently. I’m pretty sure it sold a couple weeks ago. Someone on a Facebook XJR user group mentioned they had bought it and intended to do it up. A week later it was up for sale again so, something presumably went wrong with the owner or the car.

At least it’s running with an MOT but it’s definitely rough. HOWEVER it is very cheap so one has to manage expectations. If it’s close by then yes it’s probably worth a look. It seems to have a large dent on the lip of the boot like someone tried to smash their way in. The for sale pictures from the previous for sale ad showed it was intact. The front wings are rotten by the looks of it and someone had done some strange modifications to to bodywork like that 3rd brake light. Shame the original wheels are gone but hey ho, it’s cheap.

For this one I would consider the higher mileage a bonus. What breaks X300s more of than not is sitting. Things just start to fail from being idle. Too many to list here, but that is just the way it is.

If it runs and drives ok and you wanted a fun thing to smoke around in till the MOT were close to running out it would surely be worth like £800. At that point if it blew up (the engines are unburstable on these though some it won’t), you would get that back for spares.

If you do go look at it, I’m happy to lend advice over PM, phone or here.

Cheers for that, I can’t believe that £1k isn’t omg cheap to be honest. Missed it anyhow I tried to go and see it but someone was already on their way. Missed a £500 mot’d running, driving no issues XC90 in the same way the other day. Which is exactly what I need (not necessarily what I want)! Ah well if you’re not fast you’re last!

collection imminent tomorrow anyhow which would have gone up against this in the interesting/keep/try not to die driving it stakes....
