Late 80's car accessories:

On the topic of period car mods, I'm trying to find this early 70's advert for this black paint finish thing. The slogan was "Get the hairy look" & had a silver Renault 16 with a black bonnet and boot. I remember seeing the advert in some Hot Car magazines from around 1971, does anyone know what it's called?

Here we have a couple of examples of one of Toyota Australia’s worst advertising campaigns.

The was also a TV ad that I remember being very bad.

Barry Humphries must have been really short of work at the time.

Indeed, by the time of this campaign in the early 2000s the comedy style of Sir Les Patterson was very dated and out of touch.

Thanks to FaceBook Marketplace tonight I've found myself with about a hundred car magazines for free. I take a look in the first one and these two are here:

That sounds interesting I hope you can share with us some more scans.  I’ve been collecting up some car related literature & uploading it to here & Flickr.

Feature asking about the future of scrapyards - are the good old days of the oily yard over?

Interestingly, Metro Breakers was my local yard. It no longer exists.

According to the DVLA database this was last taxed on 1 June 1997, so quite a short life on the roads by 1980s standards, but being a GTi I imagine it had a hard life.

NOT A SCAN ALERT!!!!!

Here's the sort of shite we might have had back in the late 1980s - some under £150 shonkers:

Some interesting tin on offer there - it’s interesting that the regs are sometimes quoted as well as the owners home number.

I see a K70 LS listed. Quad headlamps and 1807cc 100hp engine, so quite quick off the mark. Still heavy unassisted steering, and no space to rest the left foot, though.

In the late '80s there weren't any parts left in Britain to help restore the bodywork, unless you knew people in Germany....

I've spent a little while entering the plates into the DVLA site. Most of the high end cars (Lanchesters ect) and MGBs are still on the road

Not quite so vintage, but following on from a discussion over on the 'Unsaleable 80s & 90s stuff' thread, here's a coupla articles from Top Gear's magazine's Banger Edition from 1995 that might be of interest.

I wonder what happened to the Marina, it sounds like a great old car, it's certainly no heap.

A Mk1 coupe none too common either.
