Your worse bodge?

I'm far too young to have done any really epic bodges 8) Although my current drive has two completely different front hubs, with completely different-sized discs. I'll get round to finding a match for one of them eventually, when I get fed up with the horrendous cornering judder and bearing whine.

Probably my worst bodge was "repairing" the inner wing of a ZX with lead flashing, sikkaflex and shed loads of black underseal - I even did a little "bead of weld" all the way round the flashing with sikkaflex. Its something I am considering doing again (this time to a crossmember) after the recent credit card bill has forced me to consider fixing up the Micra.Other prize bodges include fitting bonnet pins to a Mk 2 Fiesta when the hinges rusted out so the whole bonnet had to be removed to check the oil (hinged at the front). Repairing the exhaust of same said car with tins, jubilee clips and exhaust gum and several wool bandages liberated from work. Electrical switchgear from pretty much anything bodged to fit a Mk 1 Fiesta I had with electrical issues, Door bottoms of a Mk 2 Metro repaired with chemical metal. A rusted out core plug on a Marina also repaired using chemical metal and a 10p piece (old one). Probably the all time great heap was my 1984 Mini which was just 8 years old when the electrics caught fire. I ran it for about 3 weeks from Preston to Manc and back each day with 240v household electrical cable strewn all over the car to power the lights (no indicators, no brake lights) and some washing line running from the drivers side wipe in a sort of circle through the drivers window and back out the passenger window to pull the wiper up and down (oh it also had the clothes peg on the choke knob bodge too).My skillorz wit body filler is not so good. i prefer lead flashing as its easy to shape and stays smooth.

That mini is bodging gold!

it had a big hole in the subframe too, and cracked floorpan (floor covered with melamine and newspapers) sold it for £180 back in 1992 to some mini enthusiast - oddly it never did go back on the road.

The sad thing is a lot of these bodges are pretty much obselete these days. Can anyone bodge a common rail fuel pump or a cracked head yet?

If it's not too bad then K-seal is your friend. 'Cured' a few cars in it's time pre-auction.

Is K seal any good? How long does the repair last?

Lord knows, it's only ever had to get anything I put it into about 312.6 yards round the auctions then I didn't care

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D 1982 Mercedes W126 280SE. Head is cracked from water jackets across to cylinder head bolt holes. Not a problem. After a bit of work in a pillar drill to open up the head bolt holes by a mm or so, copper central heating pipe could be pressed into the bolt holes. A couple of cracks in the actual block where the head bolts screw in cured by a dash of 3M seam sealer on the bolt threads. It fucking worked as well. This thing had been cooked to buggery yet it lived again.

My brother lived next to a cretinous mouth breather who won a fair wodge on the lottery some years back and who preceeded to spend the entire amount very quickly. After buying a mk3 Cav GSI all barried up he decides he wants a cut down steering wheel, a la KITT. So his solution is to cut the existing one in situ with an angle grinder. Except the switch on the angle grinder is dodgy, so he tapes the switch open, plugs it in and starts cutting away from the drivers seat.Inevitably the grinder skips off the wheel and he drops it. Cue panicked escape act from a Recaro bucket seat as the angle grinder skips around the interior. How he emerged uninjured is anyone's guess.

Do you know, I can't recall any REALLY bad bodges since the early days of motoring. Well, unless you count that incidence when I reconstructed the rear arches of my brother's E30 out of wag and chicken wire... it was all going so well until we got to halfords to buy paint, and just guessed at something that looked like it might match. It didn't, not by a long way. Still, he did not care, neither did the Man from the Ministry, so meh.

Was that the blue one or is this from way back?

Lolz! That makes me think of the Pink Panther cartoon where the circular saw chases him all round a building site!

I know of someone who fitted a second hand head gasket to his Astra (sourced from a burnt out car) to save money. Oddly enough he had to make an expensive trip to the garage a few days later..........

Leaking Passat sump, car for sale, can't be arsed getting a new sump/fitting it? Degrease the area that's leaking and slap some wag onto it, job done!

That was the one. Though it was 5 years ago now. It was a proper lash up, but really it didn't matter. The car cost £50, add £20 of bodge and it was good for another 2 years. Unfortunately it died after the steering fell to bits and it would only turn left. Rather than fixing it, we simply bought another... sadly numpty brother neglected to take my rather valuable alloys off before scrapping it. Tit.

Did you have it for sale on RR at one point? I atleast remember pics of it being posted, seem to think it was dark blue and the bits touched up were a fair bit lighter.
