Bfg Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 . I'm in my early 60's and am now going through a midlife crisis (which implies I might live to 125 years old ).! Anyway, in pursuing avenues discovered that my own formative age in respect to cars was between the ages of six and thirteen. So I most love cars and motorcycles of the 1960's. If the same formative years were to apply to your 44 years.. then you'll be most attracted to cars of the eighties ..And that was a great era for both automotive style and innovation < here > Of that decade - I've always been tempted by the Rover SD1 which are still affordable ..but personally I'd go for a six-series BMW ..and somehow find the money ! perhaps an import.? You know you'll never have the chance again. . Brodders, Roobarb, Sudsprint and 2 others 5
DVee8 Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Not from all from the past,I,m 50 next year. I'm toying with the idea of a Alfa Giulia. I also fancy a Honda Blackbird,a Thunderace or cat. Edit:- a Bluebird turbo would be nice. Roobarb, Jerzy Woking and Sudsprint 3
HillmanImp Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 What.. *COUGH* Midlife crisis? Sudsprint, spartacus, gm and 10 others 13
Fat_Pirate Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 The answer is Miata, as everyone knows. I just happen to have one for sale! £1250 to a shitter once it returns from the garage with an MOT. Roobarb 1
anonymous user Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 I'm well past mid-life crisis (I started mine in my 20s) but I'm very happy with the Chrysler hemi as a daft toy for the moment. You get a lot of noise for your money. Roobarb 1
Jerzy Woking Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 I'm knocking on a bit, so well past the mid life stage, but didn't get my 300bhp Saab until a couple of years ago. But I've had many quick bikes since my late teens, and still look out for something interesting and quick. I've also had the training to be able to "make progress" with cars and bikes, but don't do so on the roads here. bangernomics, Roobarb, Sudsprint and 1 other 4
stuboy Posted July 19, 2019 Author Posted July 19, 2019 i considered a bike, but too much arthritis in joints
Roobarb Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Starting out with VW beetles back in the early 80s I’ve been trying to get faster and faster cars all the time. I’ve had a Hennessy Viper coupe, currently have an Atom, had 5 different Subie STis, an Evo MR, a pre litigation Westfield (with x flow), MR2 turbos and I’ve finally realized that what’s ‘fast’ today won’t be fast tomorrow (with electric cars ruling the day) and most of the fast cars I’ve owned have been either as boring as piss to drive on the road or down right dangerous - yes I’m looking at you Dodge Viper! I’ve had more fun in MG midgets, the ubiquitous MX5, Toyota MR2 spyder, Mk2 astra diesel estate and Westfield (with maybe just north of 100bhp - 0-60 of maybe 7 seconds, down hill, with a tail wind) than any of the others on the road (track is a different thing). When I’ve sold these, it’s always been for something faster, but rarely more fun. I’m currently looking into selling one of my projects for a Westie or a Caterham, but if I don’t, it will probably be a mk2 MX5 or Toyota 86 for me. Now I’m on the verge of hitting that Hawaii big 5-0, Ive finally learned that for me, there is something about having a car that you can drive and give the sidewalls hell, while everyone else (traveling at the same speed) are just pottering along. Rather then having another big ‘look at me’ car that your can’t really exploit or legally have fun with. skoda_fan, DVee8, Jerzy Woking and 1 other 4

If you are in the market for one, suggest you stick to the Series 2 built from May 1982 to June 1987. Series 1 rust faster, whilst the post June '87 Highlines with plastic bumpers and a serious area of cowhide inside are quite a bit heavier and thirstier. I'm driving my midlife crisis, which is the CX. No sportscars for me; my lower back doesn't cope well with hard/firm suspensions and ultra-low profiles anymore. Sudsprint 1

This is why I have been driving a Ford Galaxy for so long, its hard to make progress but everybody wants to get past you because "People Carrier" and if you plan ahead and pick your lines it will corner hard if you dont surprise it too much. Mine would top out at 125 when new but the low geared 30 - 70 time is ok if you keep it on the boil. Anyway, it would be if the gearbox hadn't eaten its own tongue last week but 185,000 takes its toll, especially in 2nd/3rd Roobarb 1
Wack Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 I hate the term "midlife crisis" It's mostly , mortgage paid off , kids grown up, outgoings reduced so free cash for that car you've always wanted. You either "get" performance cars or you don't, if I'd had the money when I was 20-30-40 i'd have bought cars with it , nothing to do with a midlife crisis. Those who are happy to spunk £250 a month on a vauxhall zafira are the ones who should be getting the piss taken out of them FakeConcern, HillmanImp, stonedagain and 6 others 5 4
Rovorsche Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 Well my midlife crisis has persuaded me to buy a z3 and two low mileage Rovers today. Project list is outta control! Roobarb and Jerzy Woking 2
jonny69 Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 I was trialling the concept of the early midlife crisis a little over 10 years ago, when I was 30. I jacked in my job that I hated and within a year had developed a garage full of push bikes and a shitty attitude towards drivers. Already had the car of my woeful hopeless dreams, so I didn’t bother with that. Go for it, I say. Roobarb 1
Bren Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 Have a bike and fortunate enough to have a V8 as a daily as well as the project SD1. Jensen interceptor? Boat has sailed on that one price wise. I would really like a Mk1 granada saloon at some point. Roobarb and skoda_fan 2
inconsistant Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 My mid life crisis was a 1980s beige plastic bicycle. egg and anonymous user 2

Being of a certain age I bought a Eunos earlier this year, having semi-hated them for ages as being too common/boring. Now I wonder why I've got any other cars. I also find myself drooling over cars I wouldn't have looked twice at a few years ago. At a car show yesterday I was looking longingly at a Scorpio Cosworth....yes the ugly frog faced one everyone takes the mick out of......but hey that interior....and that engine......
