Scans of old cars from old slides at shows

Sorry for the boring title! anyway yesterday at my car meet someone gave me a disc that he made in 2007 of old cars at shows which he scanned from some glass slides he found in a skip, the original slides he gave to the transport museum but he's now given me the disc to share. There's over 1100 images of cars, commercials and steam vehicles! I thought it's share a few on here if there's any interest anymore?.

Most of them are vintage cars at local shows and i don't know what they are but the background cars which would have been modern back then (i believe they are from 1974-1978) are quite interesting in my opinion!

I think it's a dealer stand at a show but the panel gaps look shite unless it's just the photo! I do plan on uploading the full set to Flickr over the coming weeks, hopefully.

Brilliant! IIRC that cigar/blimp shaped brown convertible was the standard triumph md’s idea of a sports car (a prototype)  until others told him to get fucked and the tr2 came about instead.

That camargue was the one that was in a lot of the press pictures. There's one very,, very similar I see around Glasgow sometimes

I’m wondering if a lot are circa 1975- that would explain a possibly new mgb jubilee and a then new camargue with factory demonstrator -tu plates

Interesting to see on the .gov website how many of these survive. The Lea Francis (the car with the oval rad) was their last credible attempt at a car - the shape does not look so ungainly through modern eyes but was too 'radical' at the time. MG's sports were considered 'classics' even during their last few years of production. Those owners could never have forseen the MG would be Chinese owned...

These are an absolute trove. Glass negs last really well. Glad they passed into preservation. Nothing as distant as the recent past.

Fantastic stuff! Great to see lots of stuff on Suffolk plates.

Looks like a few are on the prom at Felixstowe, so presumably after the run down from Ipswich? Amusing to think that the everyday cars in the background would now be entrants in their own right.

That's when Rolls Royces and Bentleys sold to proper people.  Walk into Jack Barclays with a tattoo and sportswear in 1975, and they'd set the dogs on you.

The Camargue  does not photograph well. In the metal they are very beautiful cars - and the interior is so classy. If you see one go take a look. I'd have one.

Local dealer display - next to it are BL stuff to the left* and BMW to the right - 3.0CSi, two E12 5 Series and an E3 saloon. I used to go to a local event in the seventies as a nipper, the Yeovil Cavalcade of Motoring and there were dealer displays like this. 

 

*That Tahiti blue Princess might be an Austin 18/22.

They are still sensible money as well - £30'000 for a good one. You'll spend more on a bloody Escort.

I thought you might like this! Going by the tax discs that i can make out it's the 1977 Ipswich to Felixstowe run, some of the photos are at Christchurch park too.
