Guest
You think we've got it bad, you should see the sort of crap you can get in Brazil, Thailand, etc! Booted versions of all sorts of tosh.
Mash
I think the new Focus saloon is better than the original but the first one didn't work at all. They go to all that trouble of designing a car that looks up to the minute and fresh and then plonk something on the back end that was designed by the other office along corridor.I always thought that the people who bought them wanted a Ford that size but the Focus was a bit too modern looking for their conservative tastes so they bought the saloon as a compromise. Pity they didn't make them in beige! At the other end of the spectrum, the current Megane saloon is an attractive car unlike its ugly sister with the arse end from hell. Like the Ford Ka, even after it has been on our roads for ten years I will still not like it.So there.
KruJoe
You think we've got it bad, you should see the sort of crap you can get in Brazil, Thailand, etc! Booted versions of all sorts of tosh. That's a bit different to the baby Chevy saloon we get here... here's ours, the Aveo: That's not too bad, if a little too narrow. But we only get a sedan in Thailand, hatchbacks generally are nowhere near as popular. These nicely proportioned 'hatsu hatches are a rare sight... ...but not these! And this is not exactly a looker: ...but... Finally, this is the worst in my opinion...Take a perfectly proportioned and very capable little hatchback: And give it a damned good thrashing with the ugly stick: The U.G.L.Y. Honda City. Mr Lobster
I always thought that the people who bought them wanted a Ford that size but the Focus was a bit too modern looking for their conservative tastes so they bought the saloon as a compromise. Pity they didn't make them in beige! That was Fords thinking at the time as well! I used to work for Ford and when the Focus was realeased the UK only go Ghia saloon versions as the assumed the only people buying a Focus saloon would be older and more conservative and hence want Ghia trim. On more modern, ugly saloons, Clio Symbol takes some beating - Whereas from some angles, the R7 looks quite ok.
KruJoe
Mmmmm... I do like that R7. As Ford dumbed down their styling for the traditionalists, it seems so did Mazda. To me, these 323s look sporty and ahead of their time, especially with the right choice of larger wheels: But the saloon, while there's nothing wrong with it, just looks dull dull dull. They even blandified the front and lost the C8)L frameless doors. Mazda did something similar with the same era of 626, also: whilst the hatch had a slightly interesting feature or two, the saloon was, to me, yawnworthy. Seems to be one of those Brazilian specials and I think may also be made in India too. Hmm, just noticed these two seem to be slightly different body pressigns at the rear
Mash
Just done some more digging, and Ford India do indeed have some oddball Fiestas in their range. This one based on the Mk4 facelift is called the Ford Ikon:
Mash
Right I'm on a roll now I've been checking out some the manufacturers' Indian websites. Here's Honda's warmed over previous generation Civic with a boot and badged up as City (though we got the saloon here too in small numbers didn't we?) Mash
Some sort of Hyundai with a miniscule boot - Getz meets Riley Elf??? And think of the depreciation on this if it was sold in the UK, a Cityrover with a backside:
Mash
Not a saloon but a diddy estate, the K11 Micra Box: Aww, bless

andrewp
I like that Mica K11 box, it looks solid. Here's another ruined design, the Swift saloon about to be launched in India.

Guest
Imagine the 205's reputation if this monster had been launched.I dare say I think that looks superb! I'd not hesitate to drive around in that. Talking of unreleased wagons, I think it is a bloody shame this wasn't put into production (Sbarro concept): Lovely.
