i got some new speakers the other week, and i watched mad max today on them.By christ, the engine noise sounded intense! Shivers down the spineAnd this has reminded me to try out Duel on them, cant wait. Its good that one of those Peterbilts is still around, such a menacing thing, the embodiment of pure evil.I was reading up today that apparently one of the Mad Max cars, specifically the police car Max uses at the start, has apparently vanished since the film was made, and no one knows where it is.

Duel is the only good film Speilberg has ever made, in my opinion.

Awesome truck, Duel was one of my favourite films when I was younger and still is now. Is so menacing, must be the bright silver headlights, cleaner than the rest of it and like 2 mad eyes lol. I love the sound of its Cummins engine (although I believe one of the 4 was Caterpillar powered). This might work in You Tube, but see if you can get a clip of a 'Knight Rider' episode, where they are all inside the big Truck where Kitt is worked on. Listen to the truck's soundtrack in the background. It sounds very much like they have used the truck soundtrack from 'Duel'.

If only my drive was a bit longer....

and a bit wider.......

When it comes to sound though, it's hard to beat a Detroit Diesel on full song :) :

8) I was obsessed with that film as a kid. When I was little I used to call it 'the mad truck driver' as I couldn't remember the word duel!Always fancied them yeller police cars from the first mad max film too. Are they Fords? - forgive my ignorance!

I saw that film when I was little and it gave me nightmares - especially the chase sequence on the hills. Got it on dvd recently and it is still scary!

Ford Falcon, 1971-78 generation. An Aussie or Kiwi would know whether it's an 'XY' or 'FJ' or whatever - the model codes are even worse then the Japanese!Max's black coupe is also a Falcon, and there were posher versions called Fairmont and LTD. Apart from the 1962-71 Falcons, none of these were similar to the US cars of the same name.

Anyone that enjoyed the chase sequences in Duel should check out the first Jeepers Creepers film for a similar chase sequence involving this sinister beast! 8)

Any other films where an 'innocent' is struggling to shake off the enemy on the road?

Am I the only one who thought the film was utter shit?Complete tosh, plotless and entirely pointless. It had a slight element of suspence but just fizzled out.2 hours of my life wasted. :xOr maybe I missed the point. I was only about 12 at the time.

You've just described my feelings on The Usual Suspects. Except there was no suspense, or anything else that I could see, in The Usual Suspects.

Who was that aimed at? Cos YES! I hated Se7en as well. Not because it was plotless rubbish, but it was a bit gruesome for my squeamish taste, and I sold Magic tree airfresheners (amongst other stuff) at the time!!

Most people seem to love The Usual Suspects but I just didn't get it. I understood the plot, such as it was, but I didn't understand why they didn't put the clever twist at the start and save two hours of my life.Se7en was OK. Stuff happened in that film.

Duel is an incredible film. But you need the full version which starts with Mr Meek reversing the Orange Valiant out of the suburban garage and driving out of the city and the camera mounted at grille level. Some of them start as he's driving through the desert listening to the radio and it's just ruined."What do you do?" "I play meat" "Man, that's sick".I first watched it in late 1986 one night at home when my folks were on holiday. It's still one of my top 5 fave films. You're right, it's Spielbergs finest moment although Munich is pretty good.Another great film to watch is a late seventies Cold War film 'The Human Factor'. Has anyone else ever seen it, or is it just me?

I love the Valiant in Duel, it's such a handsome-looking motor. There's some pretty slick driving in that film, I imagine most people nowadays are all "hur hur hur look he daren't go over 70mph for very long", but look at the state of the roads, the 1970s tyres, the fact that he's in a Valiant of all things. I bet it's utterly terrifying at speed, the bits where he really puts the hammer down make me wince, watching the suspension reach its limits as it cuts across into the dust.

As for Mad Max, the best car in that in that is "March Hare" which is a 6cyl ex-taxi and smoking to buggery:

Didn't Bender turn into that car in an episode of Futurama?
