I've had a good luck at the chassis of a fair few exotics by Ferrari, lamborghini, maserarti, Lotus etc and they really are just chunks of metal welded together.

 

In my mind I though it would all be beautifully bent bits of tube frame welded together not that it looks like it's been made by cutting open an old filing cabinet with a gas axe.
