lol,

I've contacted the seller re the reserve and what he will take to end the auction early, I haven't made much progress with my insurance claim on the other though.

Hey benno

Whats the score with your blue one then? Do you reckon you'll be able to have it straightened out or would they rather your just took some cash?

I haven't yet managed to get past the point of initial contact, all they have done so far is asked for a contact number so they could discuss a garage to take it to for repairs and get me sorted with a hire car. I said I didn't want to go down that route, I just wanted a cash settlement, I then got a letter drafted from the fso uk owners club re value and I was going to visit two local body shops to get quotes but this one appearing on ebay has thrown a spanner in the works somewhat.

Good luck with that Benno, I had a parked car mauled in an accident like that myself, would like to offer advice but in my case they just wrote it off and at the time the the cash settlement was what I thought more than reasonable. I wasn't too attached to the car at the time so it wasn't as tough a choice as you might have yourself, that FSO above looks sweet enough to make a hard choice tougher though!

Thanks :) I have sent another email requesting a cash settlement to buy the alternative car but keeping my old one. Peeing in the wind maybe but if you don't ask you don't get. Plus if they give me a cash settlement its up to me what I spend it on surely.

I converted literally a few back in my FSO master tech days. the kit all came in a big bag in the boot. Electric tilt/slide sunroof, electric front windows, walnut (lol) kit, and side stripes. Good luck nowadays with all that creaky universal bracketry and scotchlocks. We sent 5 away to Shetland as taxi's- the islanders used to love them for some reason. Might be a good FSO hunting holiday!

Interesting! I like how the kit arrived in a carrier bag with a load of sticky fixers and Blu tack!

I never understood why these were popular in those northern Scottish islands, there have been several 'spots' on here of them up there, all of which had mostly disintegrated rapidly due to the sea air.

Islanders and highlanders are really tight, and the climate and terrain mean that no car really lasts very long. best buy something with cart springs and good ground clearance for 5 grand that'll last 3 years, than something that'll last 3 years for 15 grand, and struggle on the roads up there. The guy from FSO UK was a really great chap- used to deliver them up here with a Nissan Cabstar beavertail. He seemingly was once in the sales side for Ford UK, and told me that more RS Fords came to Scotland than anywhere else in Europe? I have no idea if the garage is still standing, looks derelict on Google streetview, but knowing the owner, he probably just shut the doors and walked away leaving everything inside. There was mountains of FSO stuff, and an Alvis TD2, as well as a 50's Alfa Giulietta. Biggest selling FSO dealer in Britain for a while...

This is giving me the right horn, despite how difficult the ad is to read.

I've done a reasonably thorough search of Shetland and I'm pretty sure it's an FSO-free zone. The oldest scrappers I've seen are an X plate Land Rover (gone the next time I visited), an F plate Sherpa and an E plate AX (oh, and this from the 70s). Apparently Russian fishermen bought up all the rusty shite about 20 years ago. There is some 1990s chod in various gardens, but not that much. The vast majority of cars in use are well under 10 years old and Citroen is probably the biggest seller.
