Really? I just see the kind of battered Cortina I would have passed over 30 years ago in Witney Auctions for 150 quid. To me that's just rubbish. I'd like a really nice Mark 4 saloon (2000 GL in Roman bronze), but not at todays insane prices. I sold my last one in 1988 for £200 and it was clean - VGN655R.

To be fair, that's a lot less half-arsed than some of these Ferrari replicas.  And a real GTO these days would probably set you back 20 times that.

Struggling slightly to work out what's going on with the bidding - are they "genuine" eBayers on a wind-up or are they shills who are pulling some kind of double-bluff scam that I can't get my head around?

Think the seller is trying some sort of scam and has been found out. Just dont think he can be honestly selling all those different items.
