That's quite salty for an early pod-dash model, surely?

Yep, I think so too, pre 85.5 models aren't particularly sought after and generally go for quite a bit less than that.

I've seen the much later 2.7's for that kind of money.

A 150,000 miles highly complex 10 year old BMW 7 series v8 with an intermitant gearbox fault sold by a breakers yard for less than £3000. I think we can put this under "what could possibly go wrong".

By the looks of it a decent one's only and extra grand or so, which I'd say if you're after one of these is 1000 quid well spent.

Here's a tidy low mileage E36 320i coupe on the bay for a £1000 containing a link to a gumtree advert for the same car but for £150 less.

He's obviously read the book "cort16's no1 guide to buying shit cars and selling them at a crippling loss"

This Sea Error is sitting at 299 with 0 bids, 8 hours to go and no reserve.

That got to be mega cheap for a Sierra with a load of T&T right?

had loads of Sierras and they dont seem to handle high mileage as well as cavaliers. Any I've had over 130k have been borked. That one at 158k will probably be smoky and as tight as a wizards sleeve id have thought.

This one is also fitted with a twin cam and an auto 'box, both of which seem to pretty much sound the death knell when it comes to selling Sierras. Ask me how I know.

Are those twin cam motors really that shit? The guy I rent my garage off says it was reasonably common to swap them out for pintos if the twin cam went south back when there was gazillions of these on the road.. He recons it was for reliability but I'd have thought cost/availability would have been more of a reason.

Actually - no. I've had a couple and they're smooth, quite quick and decent on fuel. I'm weird though - I didn't think the CVH was as terrible as its made out to be either.

The only issue I had was when the oil pump packed in on my lovely smokestone black J reg Sapphire GLS and duly wrecked the engine, I was gutted as it was one of my favourite cars ever ( in spite of its numberplate which read CUM) but it went to a banger racer as I couldnt afford to get it fixed at the time.

There's nothing wrong with the twin cam at all. They're more refined and slightly more economical than the Pinto. They seem to have a reputation for being less robust though, which is odd as I don't think I've ever seen a Pinto with more than 150K on the clock which wasn't smoking like a chimney either.

Head gaskets kill most of them off , but not through damage but expense of doing the job with the timing chain and single use tensioer etc Ive not seen one yet with knacked bores . Ive had a lot of them and still got 3 tc auto's generaly there not bad but very unpopular with buyers for some reason .

I like them , i also like the 1.8 CVH auto too there not as bad to drive as they sound

Ive seriosly considered this one on ebay but its the wrong side of the country too close to xmas

I had a 2.0 twin cam Granada estate and it was an awesome motor. 40mpg everywhere I went and would pull huge trailers with ease.I really rate em.

They are fine, as long as you maintain them. I'm sure many will have expired because the coolant was 7 years old, or the oil went unchecked for months on end etc.

Chap I know managed 650,000 miles in an E plate 1.8 CVH Sapphire. E776VOB.

His replacement one only got to about 450k before he traded it in for a Mondeo.

This looks handy. ST24 estate with a bag of T&T for £550.

It looks like a tidy one too.

Shit wheel trims aside £480 seems pretty reasonable for this with a years test and 6 months mot. Even if you got a couple of hundred quid for the hard top you've

pretty much got a car for nothing (and you can spend the cash on getting some decent fuggin wheels).

Another cheap cab at £360, what's wrong with these people it's roasting out there.

I think the chances of getting the roof stuck down after showing off to your mates is about 80%
