This has a predicted shelf life of about 2.1 weeks before it gets knobheaded out of recognition, I reckon

FOR RESTORATION

Oh please, please, PLEASE no!

Junkman said "please"!

Engine starts and runs with oil pressure and holds water. Car drives in all gears, good clutch and working brakes.

Please don't restore it!

Low rake steering column that makes it suitable for conversion to a tourer body.

Oh no!

Some arsehole will restore it.

I am literally crying.

How much does an engine change like that devalue such a car? I have no idea what it's worth but assuming the brakes and suspension are up to it, and you're not bothered about originality, then it seems a good way into an older car that can be used on a daily basis.

Or am I just being dense?

Don't know about value in £££ but I would hope the broken or worn out old engine is kept to stay with the car.

an engine swap like this one can be reversed pretty easily. much more easily than modern paint for instance. Anything that keeps an old car in use is good I reckon. Anyway, a Pinto engine is not that much of an advance on the Rover engine is it?

It's better it's on the road with a pinto in it than not. EAZY BLACK TOP ZETEX CONVRSION

Yeah, but that Pinto came out of a Capri, so strictly speaking as an investor, someone obviously has no idea of what he is doing,

which is pretty much confirmed by the tone in the Rover listing.

I mean, first there is this talk about restoration and show condition, then the bomb re. the engine is dropped and all this in the face

of it being a pre war, which really are like hen's teeth and command serious money if unmolested. And with serious money I mean 10-12k.

Here we have a typical 1990s quality* restoration* with a wrong engine fitted, so it'll struggle to sell for the minimum bid.

For any buyer, it should be paramount to source a correct engine.

Please be aware, that it is my opinion, that with taking on such a car, you are also taking on the responsibility to preserve a piece of

culture and heritage, a bit like taking on a listed building. It's not only about money and profiteering.

I probably wouldn't have left the Capri gear knob on. The start price isn't a fortune meaning someone will use and enjoy it, which I think is more important than it having the correct engine .

It's not like a one of one horsey horseless alloy bodied special .

I would leave the pinto engine in until a cheap Indenor or Perkins 4108 came along.

Type 9 gearbox no disgrace - half the classic British sports cars round our way seem to have them (sans Ann Summers knob).   Its not normally the engine that gives me daily driving issues on my old stuff anyway so I can't see that fitting a ticky old Pinto 1600 is going to greatly improve a pre-war Rover driveability.   Much better to try and find a four-pot P4 lump, surely?

Or do as Mr B suggests.....
