eBay tat volume 3.

Although WITAF is one of those heavily overused sayings I feel safe in the knowledge that it can accurately be used in the case of the 'Stimson Scorcher'.

I mean really, it looks like somebody cut a car floor pan up to make the sides, the front seat appears to have been stolen from a ride on mower and the back seats look like something I would have made for a push kart when I was 8.

I'm trying my hardest to imagine what 100mph on one would be like, but despite being brave and having little regard for my own safety, my imagination lets me get to about 27mph then puts on the brakes.

Renault 15. Seen it. Looks like it was painted with a bog brush and a tub of Dulux but otherwise very nice

He's got an 85 Fiat Ritmo and a Citroen Dyane as well, but they've already been on here I think

Good place for a mooch. I must really get on his nerves!

5 star food hygiene rating aside, I think I'd rather drink water straight from the river Thames and eat a few cow pats than buy something cooked in this

SUPERB THREE SEAT BODY CLASSED AS A MOTORCYCLE AND SIDE CAR

By whom? The voices in your head maybe?

Actually, this bloke:

Giles_Chapman_sml.jpg

mentioned it in his book "Cars That Time Forgot" IIRC.

Back in the day, I think it confused the fuck out of the authorities, so I think they just called it a motorcycle, given that seating was astride it on an extended saddle and not having chair-type seats. The combo conclusion is that motorcycle+sidecar = rider+pillion helmet, sidecar helmetless. (Although I think Barry took the view of saving the grief and have all 3 wearing lids)

So in fairness, it's not the voices in his head. It's down to what is on the V5C I suppose.

Thanks for that! I didn't know there was a separate classification for sidecar outfits on the V5c? So back in the day when I had an old Z400 twin and stuck a chair on it I should have informed the DVLA?

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think there was a separate classification - a lot has changed in 40-odd years. From that magazine article above (and various retold anecdotes) it was registered as a "MOTORCYCLE" on the docs back then. Helmet rules apply to motorcycle and not tricycles.

Anyway, from what I gather now, they are now "TRICYCLES" and thus no one aboard needs to wear a lid.

Some things just automagically change too. I had two Austin Maxis which prior to being sent away for a keeper change had "5DR SALOON" on the docs and returned with "5DR HATCHBACK" and I never asked them to do that.
